That is a good idea. Iā€™ll try that next time. I was surprised at how sturdy we were able to strap them down. Once loaded the didnā€™t move at all.
The more you do it the more efficient you get at it until you find the smoothest system.

Ford Maverick If anybody was wondering, you can fit two motorcycles in the bed! 20220604_140343

What kind of ramp did you use to load them?

Awesome!
Surprised there havenā€™t been any comment about the trailer across the street šŸ˜‚
OP had to park it over there to get a clear pic of his bikes. Can't say I'd endorse this loadout...hit a bump or need to steer away from an obstacle and your stuff goes flying. This looks like too much for a Maverick.

That was one of my concerns. The weight limit is 400lbs on the tailgate. So it is about 450, like you said. We made sure not to step on the tailgate as we were loading. But all said, the tailgate seemed to handle it fine.
Nah, you're good. Sportbikes do not have a 50/50 weight distribution front to rear. I'd guess the rear wheels are each carrying 100 to 125 lbs each tops. Don't believe me...throw each wheel on a burly bathroom scale. Like scales built for Walmart patrons.

I'd use some heavier straps though.

You could use a metal channel or old loading ramp under frt&re tires to take some weight off tailgate.
It's a Ford, not a Toyota, it will be fine.

I havenā€™t seen a weight distribution split between front and rear published, but 125 rear to 325 front would seem unlikely to me. Weight distribution may not be 50/50, but I doubt itā€™s more than 60/40. Then you still have the loading of the second bike, which would put a front wheel and rear wheel on the tailgate at the same time.

Like I said, my main concern would be the live load aspect. I would put a rail of some sort under the bike to carry some of the weight off the tailgate.

For myself, better yet would be to use a two rail bike trailer, lots easier to load a low trailer than a pickup. At least the Maverick has a pretty low bed height. My Colorado 4x4 was a bitch to load my sonā€™s Triumph 765 into for a track day. Donā€˜t want to think about trying to load my Multistrada back there. Am looking at bolting a winch in the truck bed.

I was able to get two bikes in the back for the track. This is pretty exciting news. They werenā€™t touching. There isnā€™t a ton of extra space. But, I was able to get the ramp in between the bikes with a couple inches on either side of the bikes.

Just a smig under. Figuring about 450lbs for each bike plus two people and gear, about 1400lbs. The payload capacity is 1500lbs. So basically right at the limit.

I have CB500F myself and was wondering about the ease / ability to load my bike into the bed. This is great info! I believe both of our bikes are roughly the same length, so this is like music to my ears.
