The more you do it the more efficient you get at it until you find the smoothest system. That is a good idea. Iāll try that next time. I was surprised at how sturdy we were able to strap them down. Once loaded the didnāt move at all.
OP had to park it over there to get a clear pic of his bikes. Can't say I'd endorse this loadout...hit a bump or need to steer away from an obstacle and your stuff goes flying. This looks like too much for a Maverick.Awesome!
Surprised there havenāt been any comment about the trailer across the street
Nah, you're good. Sportbikes do not have a 50/50 weight distribution front to rear. I'd guess the rear wheels are each carrying 100 to 125 lbs each tops. Don't believe me...throw each wheel on a burly bathroom scale. Like scales built for Walmart patrons. That was one of my concerns. The weight limit is 400lbs on the tailgate. So it is about 450, like you said. We made sure not to step on the tailgate as we were loading. But all said, the tailgate seemed to handle it fine.
It's a Ford, not a Toyota, it will be fine. You could use a metal channel or old loading ramp under frt&re tires to take some weight off tailgate.
I havenāt seen a weight distribution split between front and rear published, but 125 rear to 325 front would seem unlikely to me. Weight distribution may not be 50/50, but I doubt itās more than 60/40. Then you still have the loading of the second bike, which would put a front wheel and rear wheel on the tailgate at the same time.Nah, you're good. I'd use some heavier straps though.
So Toyota's have an issue w/weak tailgate? It's a Ford, not a Toyota, it will be fine.
Yep. https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/2005-bent-tailgate-problem-tsbo018-07.301226/So Toyota's have an issue w/weak tailgate?
I used this one from harbor freight. It works fine. The only thing is that because the bed is so short I bent the tabs up so the ramp would sit against the lip better. What kind of ramp did you use to load them?
I have CB500F myself and was wondering about the ease / ability to load my bike into the bed. This is great info! I believe both of our bikes are roughly the same length, so this is like music to my ears.I was able to get two bikes in the back for the track. This is pretty exciting news. They werenāt touching. There isnāt a ton of extra space. But, I was able to get the ramp in between the bikes with a couple inches on either side of the bikes.
Just a smig under. Figuring about 450lbs for each bike plus two people and gear, about 1400lbs. The payload capacity is 1500lbs. So basically right at the limit.
The bikes look like too much?!?!OP had to park it over there to get a clear pic of his bikes. Can't say I'd endorse this loadout...hit a bump or need to steer away from an obstacle and your stuff goes flying. This looks like too much for a Maverick.
Who says it's not a truck!?I was able to get two bikes in the back for the track. This is pretty exciting news. They werenāt touching. There isnāt a ton of extra space. But, I was able to get the ramp in between the bikes with a couple inches on either side of the bikes.
