What’s your EV coach “blue bar” length?

Starting at 70% SOC (rare) I could accelerate like a bat out of hell.

Was night & day compared to "normal".

To get it to 70% I had to drive around my block three times at idle in Tow/Haul so I was putting power in the bank without taking any out.

That's why trip MPG was in the 30's.
Also rare (for me).

It would be interesting to see a 1/4 mile time with the battery at 70% SOC at the start.

The blue bar comes on, on top of the white "hybrid" bar at battery 43% SOC.

I guess this is when Ford programmed in a little bit of "encouragement" to try and utilize EV drive mode. Implying "don't bother" when SOC is below 43% and gets larger as charge increases.

You can have EV all the way down to 30%.

So, if SOC is above 43%, you can drive in electric mode? I’m confused.

Again, in simple language, what is the value of knowing SOC %?

If valuable, shouldn’t a driver be able to display the value without having to buy a ScanGuage III?

EV driving is possible:
Anytime the HV battery is above 30%
After the first start, also:
Water temperature needle needs to be just above C for cold, and the catalytic converter needs to be warm.

As visual "encouragement" only, the blue color bar shows up at 43% battery charge.

Knowing SOC is mostly for fun.
But knowing it's "full" might encourage you to change your drive style to use it more.

If it's low, no need to baby it starting to accelerate, because you know the gas engine is going to start, no matter what.

I've been able to quantify some subjective observations.

If battery charge is greater than 66% when you park, on the next restart you have up to DOUBLE the EV power.

Normal EV mode: 80 Amps to the wheels.

First Start with SOC above 66%: 169 Amps can go to the wheels.

(Not documented, but observed via OBDII scanner.)

169A is 50 Electric Horsepower.

80A is 24 Electric Horsepower.

I'm putting down the Maximums seen to date. Also make sure you are looking at Amps (current) and not kilowatts (power).

35 kW would be ~159A
You probably know what you are doing but that would explain it.

Dear Retired — and not anal about gas mileage:

Surprising result on interstate north of Atlanta yesterday. It was a 15 mile drive going with heavy traffic. Averaged only 24 mph. (It felt like 30 mph.) In essence, it was like driving on a surface street. I did make every effort to drive in electric — taking my foot off the gas till I saw the blue bar in EV Coach mode — but it wasn’t hard to stay in electric. It was worth the effort — 57 mpg. I’m retired too.

Always looking for the smoothest trip possible, I don't care what my phone is doing and rarely touch the radio. Touch screens in cars was the worst automotive idea of the century. Allowing cell phones to function at above 5 mph second worst.
