We've had our truck almost a week. Dealer prepped it very nice. They probably waxed it. The last time I bought a car (~25 years ago) I tried to keep the paint in good shape by giving it an occasional paste wax job. I went to auto zone a couple days ago and looked at the wax area. There must be a hundred products. I asked a staff person which are the best and he had no clue. I don't want to get into something that is an abrasive application. At the same time I don't know what wax products to move to or avoid. Any experience on this?
Many thanks, Donald

Easiest and best bang for your buck on the DIYer level is hands down Turtle Wax Ice Spray Wax. You can reapply after wash if you'd like. Turtle Wax Ice Seal N Shine lasts longer but can be a bit finicky if you apply too much product.

It is much better then the water based ceramics from McGuires, turtle wax, etc.. But it is easier to apply then the "real" ceramic coatings. On a dry truck it took me about 30-45 min to apply with a microfiber block and towel. I also did not do the 5 hours of prep like clay bar and iron removal.

Wash, dry, apply and you are good for 9-12 months in about 2 hours. Works great on rims as well.

With all the waxing and cleaning I have done over the last 45 years I would just go with the Turtle Wax line of products. And for washing The zip wax wash solution (the green solution) is one of the best washes around. In my opinion. No fancy name products needed. :giggle:

Change your way of thinking..... what's an efficient way to care for my truck? (and many other things...)

This stuff is fantastic. Pretty much goof-proof, easy to use as often as you wish. Works on any non-porous surface. The swiss army knife for all things shiny!

Old timer here. When I had my 69 Camaro repainted the guy recommended Simonize. The same thing you use on furniture. I would think with all the changes in chemistry and paint probably no longer ideal.

I prefer a good professional ceramic job. Then you don't have to wax it, ever. Just rinse off and dry.

I co-sign this. Did mine Monday. Not sure where you got 9-12 months from though. They advertise 7+ years. While I don't think that's super realistic I hope to get 3-4 years at least. https://www.amazon.com/Adams-Graphe...8DHRPTZ1&psc=1&ref_=pd_basp_bia_rpt_ba_s_1_sc

The inventor of this is a chemical engineer.
He tried all the crap out on the market and realized they had no idea what they were doing so he developed this product himself.

I think many of the big names have mostly replicated, or bought, his formula now.

Ive used this since it came out on every car I’ve had. People always think I have a new car no matter how old it is because the paint always looks brand new.

This Subaru paint is 9 years old using Optimum from the beginning.

Super easy to apply, completely biodegradable, smells nice.

You can apply 3 coats in an hour easily. Works on everything, glass, plastic rubber, paint, safe for all surfaces. UV protectant built in.

https://optimumcarcare.com/product/optimum-car-wax

Amazon carries it too.

Get a 17oz bottle.

BTW, cleaning your paint before using any kind of sealant or wax will give you better results.

Even new paint has a lot of nasty contaminants in it. That’s the rough surface you feel with your hand when you rub it over the surface.
You need something to pull out the contaminants.

Clay bars work, but they suck to use.

Nanoskins work every bit as good, are much faster and easier to use, and don’t get ruined when, (not if, when), you drop it on the ground. Clay bars are pretty much wasted after they’ve slipped out of your hand,(not if, when), a couple times and get contaminated.
You just rinse off Nanoskins and get back to work. They last forever too.

https://www.amazon.com/Nanoskin-AUTOSCRUB-Patented-Replacement-Contaminants/dp/B005RCD9L8

If you clean your paint and use a good spray wax/sealant, a microfiber towel should slide right off your hood when you’re done.

Second this. I bought their "advanced" spray and it's phenomenal. Very easy application but you have to be careful when you apply it. Do one panel at a time and don't let it dry too much. I spray down a panel, wait about a minute then buff it off with a clean, dry microfiber towel.

The easy way to get best results make sure the car is freshly washed, clean and dry, then take some rubbing alcohol on a clean microfiber and wipe the panel down thoroughly to remove any old waxes or coatings. Let that dry then apply the ceramic spray. You can do the iron remover and clay bar thing if you want but on new paint if you just clean it thoroughly you will get very good results.

Big fan of Collenite 845 myself, it is a premium carnuba.
I prefer to polish first with 3M or Meguire's hand glaze.

Turtle wax Ice Seal N Shine works very well for an inexpensive spray on. I have had good luck with it in the past.
I personally did a 10H Ceramic/Graphene coating on my Maverick and am Super happy with the results.
