Had a old dead hurricane eye pass directly over a camping spot once camping due East of San Antonio.
Caught the weather radar late after local radio said it was stating together could make it to SATX. Was looking to pass about 3 miles to my West but radar was off.
Could see a roll of fog coming fast and hit with very cold drizzle as clouds on ground level past. The wide open clouds stayed in general groups and rotated counter clockwise.

I'm just up here in Alabama watching my lawn turn brown because I haven't had a good, measurable rain since April.
I'm sorry about your lawn, but I hope it doesnt rain this weekend in Talladega. Then you can get all the rain you need.

Generator on standby, extra ice on hand, beer supply good, water supply good, booze supply good, wine as a back up. Food good.

Installed impact windows years ago.
Windows won't do you much good when the roof takes off for the next county.

Are you not familiar with impact windows?

They can withstand a cat 5 hurricane.

Building inspector that came out told me these windows can take direct hit from a 9mm or .38 and it won't go though.

Outer window is 3 piece about 3/16 glass about 1/8 inch clear neoprene then another 3/16 piece of glass. Much like a automobile windshield but more than 2 times as thick.

Then an insulation gap and another pane of glass.

I’m on the island in St Augustine and can’t evacuate at this point. I’m used to losing power (20 years here) and just wish I had a battery backup for my solar panels! Darn FPL that shuts us down during an outage! Is it November yet? Stay safe and good luck to all in the path of Ian’s journey! Post when you can.
We were just up there a couple months ago. Took a Mav Lariat ( the one pictured in my Avatar ) from Bozard Ford for a test drive. Ian is on track to enter Polk County where I live as a CAT 3 and exit as a CAT 1. We are expecting to get Winds gusting up to 100 mph by tonight! I would be happy to trade places with you right about now!

NE Florida? You should be fine if you're around Jacksonville.
If you think NE means around Orlando, well . . .
I went thru Charlie, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne in 2004 in Kissimmee. I now live 1500 miles NW of Floriduh and I aint goin back!!
We moved out of FL in August 2003 and missed the four hurricanes that blew threw in 2004. Moved back in 2012. We're now riding out our fourth hurricane since 2016. The bad stuff hasn't even started yet in the general Daytona Beach area, but the river is rising and the waves are churning.

Yes, I am familiar with windows. They are set in the WALL in most homes.
Reread my post.
What I said was that the WINDOWS won't do you much good when the ROOF goes.

Roofs come off because a window fails. Pressure differential.

If your windows remain in place roof will too. I'm sure there are exceptions, but its the price one pays to live in paradise.

This house has withstood all the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 direct hits 5 miles from me. Cat 4 and Cat 5 all good. 2 came ashore at cocoa beach.

If one is prepared a hurricane is a dangerous but easily negotiated event.

Looks like you’re going to be at the exit site of Ian! Not sure if that is good or not so good. Stay safe and indoors!
