If this becomes a permanent situation, Ford could drop the MAV back to introduction pricing, minimizing the tax hit at the border and let the customer and dealer work out the final price after tariffs and market adjustments.

It is one way to shift blame to the government and the dealers, and Ford could say they are trying to help the customer.
Tariffs are based on the "cost of goods sold" or the declared value of the imported goods at the point of import, not the final sales price. I don't blame any of this tariff mess on Ford or the dealerships. They didn't make the mess.

Go that route, and you'll spend FAR more in attorney fees than the final total price of the truck. Just sayin'
There are attorneys like I have found that may take your case for no cost to you. They charge Ford for all fees. IT IS TO OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF!

The dealers cover themselves as they should with "applicable taxes". Dealer is not jacking up the list price just adding tariff to tax line item.

List Price: $ xxxx.xxx
Plus Applicable Tax: $ xxxxx.xx
Total Purchase: $ zzzzz.zz

The manufacturer or importer sets the MSRP, which will include the tariff. Tariff is paid when the vehicle or its parts cross the border(s). It is not up the dealer to collect the tariff from anybody.

Your right! And with a higher overall price you pay more taxes based on where you live. So if you pay 3000k more you pay tax on that increase. Not to mention the tarrif is a tax given to the feds. The way the market went today we'll be in a recession soon. Chaos

If Ford eats the cost of a 25% tariff, they lose money on every unit sold.
I doubt Ford is making much on the Maverick to begin with, maybe even losing on the early ones that had so many recalls. Even though it seems to be succeeding at the original goal of bringing in a good number of new to Ford buyers (like me), and is still well positioned in a market where consumers are pulling back on spending, they have to pull the plug of the numbers don't make sense.

On the current trajectory I am honestly pretty worried about the health of all the domestic automakers if there is a perfect storm of a tariffs disrupting current supply chains + recession + mounting losses on EVs.

Under Sleepy Joe, the Dow dropped 25% between 1-1-22 and 9-30-22. How come nobody was in a panic then?

Wife and I have purchased 4 Honda’s in last 8 years. All manufactured in the United States so no tariffs applicable. Mostly in Ohio. Apple and Oranges.

Universally Tariffs are applied when the item crossed the "border". The on and off again, spur of the moment change can make it impossible to know if your truck will have a tariff since it may already be on a train.
Your Hondas were assembled in United States but the parts to make it were imported from many other places. Those parts will have a 25% tariff on them so the price of manufactured Hondas in the US will go up.

That would be nice if the tariffs don't apply to vehicles. Because as anyone who knows that's looked at a new vehicle or purchased one recently how overpriced they all are regardless of size or manufacturer.
NOT TRUE! I was shown the dealer's invoice from Ford. The window sticker showed that it was $628 over dealer cost. However, the dealer add-ons added quite a few bucks, and the dealers get a monthly kickback for reaching certain sales quotas.

Bought my Maverick from Pennsylvania on the 4% below Dealer invoice, dealers invoice showed something like a $990 profit. They were totally honest and not hiding anything...They showed me their invoice and with the 4 % discount I paid. They admitted their major part of their profits on truck sales were quarterly rebates based on volume of unit sales.
