The initial press release touted its starting price as $19,995.00. That's what peaked my interest. I paid 32 grand for mine.
Ah yes, marketing. Except that there is that pesky destination fee of $1,500 that buyers cannot avoid...

Wasn't even that initial price a lie basically. Leaving out the destination charges?

Still been a rough couple years of price increases. My 24 stock XL eco x-plan was $25 ish prior to tax.

I think Ford was putting this out as a potential loss leader that first year to generate some noise and make people who the truck market forgot aware there was a practical truck again.

April 1969 Ford advertised 1970 Ford Maverick for $1995 +tax and as I seem to remember $435 shipping charge.
Taxes and destination charges have always been added to the sale price.

And I'll bet you the fine print says taxes and destination charges extra.

All done sitting in my Maverick in the parking lot of the store, on my phone.

they don't think it will be cheaper to build them here - but if the difference is 'Mexico + 25 percent tariff vs USA + 25 percent cost increase but with thousands of more USA jobs then the USA move would seem to be the right way to go.
We need to remember that we are only 2% of the world's population. The Asian and European markets sell to the rest of the world, and with little or no tariffs. So they stick plants in America to avoid the tariffs. Guess who's making huge bucks for lower prices to the 98% of the world's population. They can afford to do what they do, with good quality and innovation. They're far from perfect, but they're knocking our socks off sales-wise. So we tariff each other here which only makes us less competitive worldwide and increases our own price. So let's just take turns kicking each other in the nethers. .

It’s my fault but…
What I find hardest to believe is that I keep reading people’s opinions and speculations on this forum about potential 25% tariffs.

An earlier comment on this thread lays odds that it will be shut down by page 7 and I keep checking back to see if it makes it. Why?
It’s like when your buddy smells the bad, month old milk in the refrigerator and makes a nasty face then says “Hey dude. Smell this,” ...and you smell it anyway.

you take your best shot and move on. Same with EVs - they made a strategic move to go full throttle on EVs...and lost. Trump said the 25 percent is not being changed (who knows...?) while he's in office - so that's 3.5 years, so the Car cos need to think long term and realize that at any given point in time they can be assessed penalties for their non-US man'd products vs. bring the man'ing back to the US and paying the higher labor costs. Of course in 3.5 years if a new admin then the tariffs could be dropped but....do you want to protect yourself from the whims of politicians or do you want to (try to..) protect yourself by just moving it all back in house, incurring the higher labor costs and moving on, taking any future tariffs off the table
I wish I had as simple a view of such complicated things as multibillion-dollar business decisions and international trade relations as you do.

Understood it is a long standing practice in the auto industry but it doesn't mean the Maverick was ever a $19,995 vehicle. There was never a window sticker produced with an MSRP below $21,495.

Just as it was there was never a 1970 Ford Maverick with a window sticker of $1995.
