I installed Dynamat yesterday

It did cut down sound at low speed (haven't taken it on the freeway yet)

I made a cardboard template first and cut it to size.

I think it makes for a much cleaner look as well!

I had some extra KillMat from another project that I installed first - I put the KillMat into the depressions to make the surface more flat for the Dynamat to stick to.

Just finished installing Noico under hood. Looked at Dynamat, also a good product. Noico 80ml was about $25 on Amazon. I measured the sound level before and after. Pretty impressive for the price.

I looked at my other three vehicles, a 1990 Buick Reatta, a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT, and a 2011 Subaru Forester base model. All of them have under hood insulation, nothing shiny or reflective, but all are some type of semi-rigid woven material, maybe fiberglas or a rock wool of some sort. It would appear there is no reason not to have the hood insulated except perhaps as a cost cutting measure.

There have been many legitimate arguments on both sides of this issue. I suppose the main purpose of that lining is to muffle noises from under the hood. In cold climates it allows the engine to reach operating temperature faster. It may also protect the hood paint from damage from the heat. I land on the fact that Ford engineered our Maverick to make the insulation obsolete. The hood is aluminum, so it dissipates heat better than steel. The engine, fan and road noise may be minimized by design. Also, if you park your vehicle outside, you may find that squirrels will steal the material to make nests. When I serviced a 2014 van at work, the insulation was gone. There was just a little left around attachment points. I'm 60, so maybe I don't hear the noise as much as younger people. But also, I have the fuck'n SLAYER blasting!! 🤘😈🤘

I have looked around the inventive aftermarket and I do not see anyone doing a kit for insulating under the hood. I do understand the engine isn't always on, especially my hybrid, but it is pretty coarse sounding under certain conditions. It seems a little out of step to have a "SoundScreen" windscreen on the Lariat and neglect under the hood. I know some form of stick on insulation could be installed as detailed above but a lightweight mechanically fastened panel would be my preference if such a thing is available, somewhere.

Hood insulator: Mine arrived today 12/12/2022. Part # M1PZ16738-B is a blanket type material and mounts ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD. Not to be confused with the molded rubber engine cover for the 2.0L EB that mounts on the engine. The blanket included the rectangular plastic clips positioned in holes stamp-cut into the blanket. HOWEVER it is not a direct fit. The holes do not align with any under the hood. Additionally, there are two flaps and no place under the Mav hood to tuck them into. Before I go and cut and modify the blanket I would like to know what others have done. Did you simply disregard the pre-cut holes for the clips and cut holes where the hood has them or did you use contact cement to glue the blanket to the underside of the hood, disregarding the clips entirely? I attached a photo of the part for those who requested one. The overall dimensions are 21 1/2" deep X 53" and it will fit exactly under the hood. It just doesn't mate with any existing cut outs or holes in the metal.

RE: Hood liner from Bronco - sadly no, I did not get it to fit properly. The Bronco hood is totally different which I could have determined had I gone to look at a Bronco in person. None of the holes line up. The part came with clips, none worked to hold the hood liner in place. The plastic clips are rectangular. I suppose I can go out and purchase round ones at an auto supply store but I lost interest. Since mine is a 2.0 EB, I was able to find the engine cover cushion. It really is a cushion, being made of a medium density foam. That helped with some of the injector noise that the direct injection engine produces. Overall, my Lariat with the acoutic windshield is pretty quiet so maybe one day I will take time to get clips that fit into the Mav's holes. Meanwhile, I like your Dynamat solution - maybe i will play with that.

Man your post kinda bums me out. I don't know whether I should thumbs up it becasue of the info you provided or give it a sad face because of the info you provided........

I was really hoping the hood insulation from the Bronco Sport would be a simple mod like the engine cover is. Anyway, thank you for letting all of us know, I appreciate it.

Never seen a factory foil faced hood insulator on any car, and I’ve owned a Pontiac, Plymouth, Mercury, Ford, Volvo, Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai.
Lincoln Town Car. I drive for VIPs and under the hood is thick shiny silver insulation on hood, firewall & fenders. We also idle a lot, but they probably have thicker radiator and coolers for all the fluids.

I'll be sure to check that out. Thanks
Skip this product and use Dynamat Extreme instead- Dynaliner is useless.

The Dynamat Extreme that I installed in my old truck cab is awesome, and it works very well. This Dynaliner (1/4" thick) that I installed inside my cab roof is pretty much useless and did nothing at all to attenuate noise. If you are going to use this product, apply it OVER Dynamat- do not use it as a stand alone solution. It might work better as a speaker enclosure material, but it is not something to be applied to metal panels that you are trying to quiet, though... a waste of my money for my needs.

Can you provide the part number to the 2.0 engine cover you got? Are there tabs present already or so we need to buy those as well? I haven’t looked under my hood so much so can’t recall if they’re there. Thanks!
