I can appreciate that in trying to keep the price of the Maverick low, Ford skipped on many of the frills that are common in more expensive vehicles. I have sent a lot of time under my hood wiring a number of accessories and modifications. As a result, one of the items I missed is a set of hood struts to assist in lifting the hood and holding it securely once open. I’m thankful Mabett has released their answer to my wish. Their lift support struts come with clear installation instructions. I initially had challenges with the installation. The hood did not align at first as I expected. I chose to reinstall the brackets paying strict attention to bolting the hinges and attached brackets in the same location as when it came out of the factory. Pay close attention to the unpainted area under the bolt heads to accomplish that task. The result is worth the effort. Thanks Mabett.

I used the strut kit from MRT. Even though I outlined the original bracket placement before starting, I had to work on the alignment.

I noticed in the MRT installation video, the guy didn't close the hood after the install even though they could have edited the video.

My conclusion is, since I only open the hood to check fluids and when changing my oil, hood struts were stricly a vanity purchase and I wouldn't do it again. That's just me.

The Mabett tailgate damper is also superior compared to the other brands including the Ford sanctioned one.

I went through 3 which all exhibited the same behavior in that the upper ball joint plate would move and stay some what cockeyed whenever opening the tailgate. It had nothing to due with tightening bolts etc...

This was a design flaw which the Mabett did not have so I am very pleased with them.

I may install the hood struts later this week but all in all they are spot on worth there stuff.

I’m beginnig to think that my initial problem might not have been the misalignment of the brackets, rather it may have been the struts themselves that were tight and were not fully retracting until they had been worked a number of times.

I've logged so many hours working under hood props and don't see myself ever buying these. I guess I just don't know what I'm missing.
