Under hood fire modification?

any miss machined engines that have been in regular use would have likely failed by now, it doesn't take this long to surface.

now if you're one of the 1.8M RAV4 owners of 2013 through 2018 models just recalled for fire that would be sadly ironic....

Recalling a 2013 ten years later seems pointless.

Are most maverick owners that are subject to the under hood fire recall having the modification done with the drilling under the engine shield, and removing the shutters? I don't know whether I should have this done or white for the new parts that are due this coming fall. I wonder if it's advisable to drill holes however, if it would prevent a fire, it would be worth it I would think would just like others opinions please thanks

If you have a Hybrid or non-awd, the shield is only for aerodynamics. There is no protection. I would simply remove it.

It's official name is "splash guard". So there's that. Maybe water and/or road salts and/or sand and gravel are bad for components under there.

from what I read it has to do with the replacement battery being too small for the tray and hold down allowing the battery to tilt and short out. recall replaces those items plus a battery terminal cap. the whys and wherefores were not explained.

Since the letter states parts should be available oct 2023 would at least like to know what the parts are because lots of info out there it's the crankshaft is the problem

I believe the recall says a "remedy" will be available by Oct 2023, not parts will be available.

As of today it won't show me any recalls, maybe that means they're working on posting the solution?

My guess is still that they're probably going to issue an extended warranty, highly doubt they're going to replace 125,000 potentially faulty crankshafts/bearings.

It says the fix may be available in October 2023. It isn't. I was just at my dealership yesterday getting other recalls done. They haven't heard a peep from Ford about it, other than it's delayed.

It's got to be the same issue, they never fixed it in the first place, the first recall was just to satisfy safety regulators, so they could sell the trucks while waiting to find the solution.

As for what will be done, we'll find out when Ford tells us.

Sounds like until a real fix comes out, the current plan is: engine fire? abandon ship!

Ran across a VW van on fire years ago....Driver had hood open and was spraying fire retardant, water, dirt, etc on the fire with ZERO luck. Fire truck arrived as the VW was fully in blazes. Fire men said the best way to put out any engine fire is crack the engine hood spray fire extinguisher through the cracked hood opening...fully opening the hood just provided more oxygen for a fire.

Is they're not a class action lawsuit filed against Ford about this escalating fire problem. I have got notices about once a week about this class action lawsuit wonder if it has been filed yet or is this just talk?? The notices I get really don't say nothing so I was just wondering

There was a post here a month or so ago linking to the classes website, and yes there is a class action. Has it been in court yet to start the process, don't know.

That’s weird to think that Ford would expect the remedy to be out by October but it isn’t. Do we have any ideas what specifically is wrong with the Mavericks, Escapes, and Corsairs? I thought that the previous recall wouldn’t work since it’s just drilling holes. Do we think that are going to replace the under-hood shield since that was modified for the last recall?
