Are most maverick owners that are subject to the under hood fire recall having the modification done with the drilling under the engine shield, and removing the shutters? I don't know whether I should have this done or white for the new parts that are due this coming fall. I wonder if it's advisable to drill holes however, if it would prevent a fire, it would be worth it I would think would just like others opinions please thanks

I think those recalls are different. I had the shutters removed and holes drilled and still have the new fire recall.

If it were me I’d wait, they basically admitted that the “repair” wasn’t the solution. I’d wait for the second “solution” which my guess is extended warranty.

The holes in the pan are created to allow engine oil and other fluids to dump on the ground rather than collect under the hood and catch fire in the event of a block breach.

How do you offer an extended warranty on a dead person or a melted down truck?

I know what the holes were drilled for. It doesn’t do squat thus they say pull over and get out of the vehicle when the smoke starts. They are not going to put new engines in over 100,000 Escapes, Mavericks and Lincolns. They can’t even fix the cable sleep mode or airbags so you really think they are going to tear apart 100,000 plus engines. Like I said, extended warranties because the bean counters are not going to let them tear apart all engines to replace parts.

I recall there were ~6 Ford vehicles ...worldwide... with a similar power plant (not just Mavericks) that suffered a catastrophic failure, windowed the block, lost fluids and suffered a fire. I think the odds are higher being struck by lightning or hitting the lottery than suffering from this failure and then have it actually ignite.

My 23 came ready to go with shutters removed and holes in the belly pan from the factory.

Sounds like until a real fix comes out, the current plan is: engine fire? abandon ship!

It's got to be the same issue, they never fixed it in the first place, the first recall was just to satisfy safety regulators, so they could sell the trucks while waiting to find the solution.

As for what will be done, we'll find out when Ford tells us.

Since the letter states parts should be available oct 2023 would at least like to know what the parts are because lots of info out there it's the crankshaft is the problem

any miss machined engines that have been in regular use would have likely failed by now, it doesn't take this long to surface.

now if you're one of the 1.8M RAV4 owners of 2013 through 2018 models just recalled for fire that would be sadly ironic....
