Purchased the Maverick pre-owned on 3/31, since it was CPO I have 14 days to cancel the deal and return it. I only had the truck 3/31 to 4/1 and returned it to the dealership on 4/2 since it had a stop-sale on it for the gas tank recall and I guess they weren't allowed to sell it to me in the first place.

They can't remove the gas tank for inspection and put it back without the "one time use driveshaft bolts" which are on back-order and were supposed to arrive on 4/11. Called today to check progress, nothing arrived and the bolts are now scheduled for 4/18.

My dilemma is today is the last day to cancel the deal and unwind it, get back my trade (which could already be sold, who knows), refund the money to my lender (I had outside financing), and wait to find another Maverick, or just accept defeat and wait for these 2 stupid bolts.

Ford can make 10,000 mavericks this month but they can't spare 2 of these driveshaft bolts for AWD mav's that have the fuel tank recall?

What would you guys do ?

do you like the truck? do you smell fuel when you fill up? are you leaving gas puddles? if you answer yes, no, no, then keep it. bolts will come in and you'll get the recall handled.

It's not like you don't have a warranty. Others on this site would kill to be in your shoes. If you were happy with it I would roll with it and keep the truck.

I only had it for (1) calendar day, 2 weeks ago. It's been sitting back at the dealer since 4/2, literally sitting there. Original delivery date was 10/8/21 to the Original Owner, It has almost 10k miles on it, so I'm sure it's fine, but they won't let me have it due to the stop-sale. Also there seems to be a cooling issue that was addressed at least twice under warranty, no idea what that was yet.

Keep the truck. The bolts will come in. I had the same problem and I just waited them out. As long as you don't smell any gas nor see any gas puddles, you're probably fine. Ford is obligated to replace all tanks that had the spray-in bed lining whether or not they were affected due to liabilities. As long as you like the truck, just wait them out. I think you might regret giving up having one in hand rather than having to search for another one.

Wait for the bolts, you've done the financing & paperwork & you would not be happy to have to go back to your trade.

I'd swing by the auto parts store and pick up a set of bolts and toss them on the service managers counter.

I doubt Pep Boys is going to have torque-to-yield 1 time use bolts....

The drive shaft bolts ( LX6Z-4B496-B) are not on back order, and are readily available.

FFS they're a high strength metric bolt, probably something in the #10 spec grade. They've been around since the auto industry switched to metric fasteners.

People think they're being custom made by NASA or something.

If you like it keep it. The bolts will eventually come in.

If they are 1 time use they are torque-to-yield fasteners and meant to be stretched 1 time. No magic and have been around for years, but not as readily available. Good to learn for OP that they are available.....

It doesn't matter. A Ford Dealership performing a recall will not and cannot use parts that are not specifically approved for the repair... It doesn't matter if it's "good enough" or even if it's much better than the parts that are supposed to be installed.

Mine's going in on Monday for the gas tank recall and hopefully they can do the re-flash for the electronic brake controller at the same time.
Fingers crossed I don't need a new tank. No gas smells even with a full tank.
