A piece of advice based upon personal experience. If you get contacted by Ford that you are part of the Maverick gas tank recall, do not agree to bring it in for inspection until the dealer can tell you when a replacement gas tank will be available if needed They are telling me 3-6 months wait for mine. In the meantime, I have a Maverick with 200 miles on it sitting at the dealership with no gas tank installed. If you can smell gas, that is a different story. Iā€˜ve been told that they are expecting most of the tanks to only have drill bit marks on them. Even so, they will not allow those marked tanks to be re-installed after the inspection. They did give me a loaner car (not a truck).

My dates are just outside of the recall window. But I am avoiding the dealer at all costs for the same reason. Don't want to take a chance. Don't want them seizing my Maverick!

Gas tanks are availible now in limited quanities, the service dept needs to notify the parts dept to submit a SSSC order.

I agree with your suggestion about continuing to drive a recalled truck. Ford said they could be driven as long as there were no gas fumes. However, instructions on how to order replacement parts are supposed to be provided to dealers by the end of January and recall letters should begin to be issued any day now (target 1/28). Furthermore, dealers are supposed to prioritize trucks like yours over unsold and dealer owned vehicles. A 3 to 6 month additional wait makes no sense at all. You will most likely have your truck back before the end of February.

Soooooooo. My Mav smells like gasoline as of yesterday. No puddles on the floor, no apparent drop on gas gauge.

Sitting at the dealer wondering if this is going to be a quick fix.
