I open my door to look down and make sure the wheels are on the driveway as I have to angle in.
Truck tries being helpful by throwing itself into park.
Am I the only person that finds this weird?

It's a safety feature, there was a movie star who was run over and killed by his Jeep a number of years ago after accidentally leaving it in neutral. I believe his family sued Jeep and won so part of the reason they use "drive by wire" dial shifters is so they can mitigate user error and lawsuits.

I could be mistaken, but I think it will stay in drive if you have your seat-belt on? If true, there is your solution. Wear your seat-belt.

This is very interesting. It's a safety feature however after it puts itself in park you can actually remove the belt and with your foot on the brake pedal you can put it back into drive and you could actually lift yourself off the seat and creep along with your one foot on the ground and your other on the brake.( ! I DON'T ADVISE ANYBODY TO DO THIS ! ) I had to do it once to fit into a spot that required me To park a few inches away from a fence. I had a better view. Didn't want to scrape up my new Tremor. The downside to this is that if I slipped I could have taken down the fence and have my share of scratches. 😊

It says on the screen if you want to stay in Neutral with door open/ seatbelt off there are some kind of steps yo have to take. Might be able to then go back into Drive?

Never noticed. I’ve driven in reverse with the door open and all it does is beep at me

Interesting,I saw something on the road the other day while driving. Pulled up,opened the door while my maverick was still running in drive and examined it for a few seconds while I had my foot on the brake. Let off the brake and drove away while still in drive. Did not go into park. Was your scenario different?

You probably kept your seatbelt on.

If the door was already open when you put in reverse, it will allow it. But if you are already in drive when you open the door, it'll jump to park.

Not long after I took delivery of my truck, I pulled into my driveway shut the truck off while still in drive and it put itself into park. I'm used to the rotary dial now so this never happens anymore, but I am glad that it has that feature.

I realize there are valid reasons to do that.
But there are two things I will not do while in reverse:
Drive with the door open.
Drive with the tailgate down.

This is a safety feature ford has implemented in all of their new models(they started implementing it several years ago, maybe 5 years) now all ford models have the feature. its for those that may forget to move the car into park before getting out of the car. working at a car dealership where i have to open the door occasionally for some of the park jobs(mainly lining it up perfectly square in our picture building), It took a while to get used to. but after it throws you into park, you just keep your foot on the brake and put it back in drive or reverse.

lol I do both of those. I know it isn’t safe to drive with the door open, but I only do it if I’m pulling out of my garage to move the truck to the driveway. And I do it with my whole body inside the truck, not halfway out like some people
