Ok Im looking at the Maverick again. I think I can live with the smaller bed as long as I get a hard/lockable tonneau cover to store stuff in a bin in the back due to low interior storage dimensions(fishing/hunting gear and poles for fishing). I like the closer to 30 than 20 MPG to be honest my current 2020 Forester gets that.. this does also.

I dont really off road any very limited.. stuff like logging trails, dirt roads, farm fields. I just happen to like the looks of the FX4's and Tremors VS a standard say Lariat model..(I have no desire in the Hybrid unless they add AWD to that..a non AWD or 4x4 I wont own anymore) What I really like is the availability of the bed for messier chores and the ability to maybe bring appliances home from a big box store or brush, shrubs, bring home mulch or red rock for driveway get some firewood for the fire pit outback.. stuff that makes the inside of a SUV nasty.

This maverick has the bonus of also getting decent MPG compared to say the Tacoma, Frontier and Ranger. Im not really looking new im looking 2023 since it hits that sweet spot I want price wise for me.

I dont tow anything heavy either just a kayak or Jon boat on a small trailer sometimes.. even my Forester can do that..

So Go Tremor or FX4 probably in Lariat and the lowest id go is XLT. Lariat is preferred. I was looking at a 2021 Ranger Tremor but at least the 2023 has some warranty left on it.

In the XLT vs Lariat discussion, here is the difference in base models for MY2023. I missed the keyless entry and push to start button, so I upgraded my '23 XLT to a '24 Lariat. As far as FX4 vs Tremor, if you don't need the off-road chops, the FX4 should be cheaper, and easier to find.

Well I'm biased because I went from a XLT FX4 to a Lariat Tremor. I really liked the FX4 but what sold me was a test drive of the Tremor, it rode and handled better because of the uprated suspension. Also like the looks of the truck, has a better approach angle and the interior is gobs better than the standard Lariat which I don't like much. You could always get the BAP but you are like halfway to a Tremor $$ wise with the BAP. But towing certainly is a consideration since the 4K package isn't available.

Don't buy a 19-23 Ranger. The new '24 is so much improved that the value of the previous gen is going to take a huge hit beyond what it already has.

You could definitely look at a '24 Ranger XLT, though. The big reason to do so is towing, but if you're not towing, the only advantage is more ground clearance. The 2.7tt was just opened for orders this week.

Of the Mavericks, if towing 2k and hauling 1200 pounds in the bed is enough, get a Tremor. It's definitely better than a FX4 from suspension, rear differential, ground clearance and even the stock tires are a huge improvement over the FX4.

If you want/need to tow 4k, then you get a FX4 with 4k towing.

At least around me the Tremor was easier to find and the one Ford dealers were willing to deal on the most. I think because the Tremor in XLT or Lariat are the most expensive Mav's respectively they probably have the least demand.

I’m a little biased having a tremor but that’s what I’d recommend. Especially if you’re not towing a lot. The tremor loses 2,000lbs in tow capacity. But also remember you’ll pay extra for the package itself

I really miss my Forester. Believe it or not, it is a pretty darn capable off-roader. Not hardcore Jeep capable, but I've been on some pretty hairy roads with it. I love the utility of the Maverick though. I have just the XL hybrid but if I want to do any mild to mid off-roading I now have an Outback.

I think with a hard cover on all AWD Maverick, you will have the best of both worlds. Personally, I would go with the Tremor if I wanted off-roading capability. It will open more roads to you than just the FX4. There's some great spots to visit out there beyond where most vehicles can go!

Good luck with your search.

I really didnt want a 24 mostly because paying new taking the hit on depreciation.. Id rather finance around 13-16 vs 20K+ as I can get that paid off in 2-3 years that was all. Plus I was looking at(gone now) a 23 Lariat FX4 even had the hard cover and bed liner it was 32 or 33K which is better than closer to 40K now or 40+ with a tremor(i saw a 25 at 40 something K).

Im more in the 36K or less range. Or want to be I guess to get it paid off in 2-3 years instead of 5.

Well said, but if you don't want the towing on an FX4 you could get the optional rims/tires for $795 that are better and save some money over an Tremor. XLT FX4 with wheel upgrade, full size spare, floor liners and CP360 is $32,625 (those options make it about as apples to apples as you can get I think). XLT Tremor (requires CP360) includes those other things and is $34,275. I like the Tremor for $1,650 more and think that is a good value for it's better AWD system and, IMO, better interior, but FX4 is good too. Tremor also gets quick the quickest it sounds like b/c there isn't enough demand for it. Neither has Lux package which is something to think about...I have it and think it might be unnecessary, but heated wheel and remote start are nice...bedliner, lights/power outlet is all bs and you could do similar on your own.

I've had both XLT and Lariat (no packages) and think the interior on the XLT is better. Push button start isn't a deal breaker...the things I miss the most from the Lariat are body colored door handles and one touch up/down on all windows. For the extra money I can live without those for sure.

I'd add that finding a 23 that hasn't been beat on and/or have unreasonable miles on it and is priced for less than what a 24 cost new is going to be hard. The used market is still relatively high. Would imagine with the stock units hitting dealerships that might be changing some, but if only a small difference order exactly what you want.

Sounds like either trim will meet your criteria just fine, so I think you can actually ignore the FX4/Tremor question and just look for the deal you like.

I am biased towards FX4, but I normally throw money at the “most robust” version, even knowing I don’t need it. For example, I would’ve ordered a 4K towing package (there are mechanical benefits beyond the towing capacity IMHO) even though I’ve never towed more than 1,000 pounds in my life.

The Tremor package offers suspension and AWD chops the FX4 doesn’t have - but if you don’t need all that, you could hunt down a Lariat FX4 (or even an XLT Lux like I have) and save some coin, still coming away with a badass truck that will do more than you need. Good luck!

If you get the 64V wheel package it comes with the Tremor wheels and tires, they are just painted differently. So then the difference is basically the rear differential. Someone smarter can correct me, but I believe the FX4 diff uses the brakes to send power side to side, where the Tremor uses actual clutches to enable power to go to both sides without the brakes grabbing. The FX4 can probably go 95% of places a tremor can, but the Tremor will be more graceful getting there.

Do both the XLT and Lariat have the LED headlights? My Forester does and I like the LED... some ive looked at like say the Frontier Pro4X vs SV the Pro4X has LED lights the SV doesnt//

The only things I really want is Push button start(i dont have that on my Forester and I miss it I didnt think I would but I do) the blind spot monitoring, heated mirrors, Power and heated seat, AWD or 4x4, and thats about it... most of thats pretty standard on all but the most stripped down/base of cars.

I mean some cars make the simplest of things that just seem like to me now days a "normal" option seem like "Unobtanium".. Almost like finding a Toyota Tacoma with HEATED SEATS... seems like only 1 in 1000 must have them as ive found it next to impossible to find a decent one with them lol. and thats true..its like id say in in every 20 I look at actually has heated seats.. and its of course the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro with 80,000 miles and still costs $39,000 lol

Lariat is the only trim with push button start.

all mavericks have the same high and low beam LEDs.

what's different about the Lariat is that it has LED drls/driving lights that look really damn cool.

The only things I really want is Push button start...
I think Colin and HRG answered your questions, but I will say that I had pushbutton start in my Acura for the last 10 years, and THOUGHT I would miss it, but I've gotten over it in the last month. Do I feel poor and ashamed for not having it? Yes, haha. Does it impact much in my life day-to-day? Nah. If you are in and out of your vehicles multiple times a day, I can see how it would be a PITA if it were missing. I only drive every other day, and on those trips, I start the truck less than a half-dozen times. I'll live.

All that said, if you think the Lariat deal(s) you find are a good value, and not having a pushbutton start would be a deal-breaker, go for it! The Lariat brings all the goodies - just be sure you are okay with the "not leather" seating. I was REALLY hesitant to go that route due to the climate here.
