Hello Maverick Fans,

I wanted to share a video I did changing the transmission fluid on my 2022 Maverick. I hope it's helpful.

09/02/2025 Update:

I just completed the 60k transmission fluid change on my EcoBoost Ford Maverick. Since my last change at 30k, the fluid was down by about half a quart. From what I could tell, it was not a leak because the breather area was coated in fluid residue, so it looks like some of it evaporated over time.

For anyone planning to follow the “lifetime fill” idea, be cautious. These transmissions are not immune to fluid loss, and a little maintenance now can save a lot of trouble later.

Nice video, I just did this last weekend and I wish I'd had this reference.

Also, did you shoo away your geese between segments? I was like "what on earth is that sound, does it have a pet bird?" And then the geese came into the frame...

LOL! They’re my guard guinea fowl. Whenever they spot something unusual, they sound the alarm—super noisy, but they’re great to have around!

About ready to order the fluid to do this - So if you got 4.5 QTs out- I wonder how much was filled at the factory and how much vapes/spews out while getting up to the 20-30K mile mark ? Mine has a nice little moat of fluid currently near the vent cap -

My only recommendation as others have recommended in the past is before you do this. Make sure the check/full plug on the driver side that you're able to get it loose, otherwise that could be a bigger issue.

I plan on doing this when I hit 25-30K miles on my Maverick, currently at 5k. I surely won't do Ford's recommended 150k.

We had a pet white duck growing up. Everytime someone or something entered our driveway, which was about 100' long, that duck would quack like crazy! A 'nature's' alarm :)

Lovely video, thanks from all of us who come after you! Multiple examples of what to expect really make life easier before getting into it.

I pray to the gods of frequent fluid changes, long live trannies everywhere!

Thanks for the write-up @mavhopefull. It's getting about that time for me so I was somewhat inspired to go shopping... In case anyone is interested, below is the current state of affairs at Rock Auto as of today.

I've got 20,000 miles on a truck I bought used - so not necessarily "due" for all this, but this will take care of me for a while... 2.0 EB FX4; doing transmission, PTU, RDU, and oil - oil and filter not shown because they are cheap enough at Walmart. Shipping/taxes for Texas.

Great video. Thanks.
Would this be the same procedure for the Tremor?

Hi RTRT,

Unfortunately, I’m not too familiar with the Tremor trim, so I’m unsure if it has the same transmission or drivetrain as other models. Hopefully, someone in the community with more knowledge about the Tremor can provide some insight!

Thanks.

Hi, Many thanks to the OP of the video and all MTC members that have all helped me all out.
My Mav Tremor now has 39,000 miles on it. I live in CA but have taken it all over and totally
love it.

I have a 2023 Tremor and I removed the air filter housing and my transmission fluid
cover looks a little different than the video. No triangle and mine looks like it has a little hose coming out the cap. (see pic) Is this where excess fluid gets blown out? I've seen postings that mention that.

Also thinking I might as well change the air filter while I'm in there. Thoughts?

Thank you,
Mike in Oakland

Vehicles that are marketed as "off road" many times have the transmission vents extended to reach higher and reduce the possibility of water intrusion in water crossings. That appears to the be case with the Tremor. If you take the lower, larger clamp off, you will have the same fill/vent port there that the standard Maverick has.

Thanks so much for clarifying. I appreciate it.
