Hi guys, I'm starting this thread because I want to get a good understanding of if we will have issues with the transmissions in these cars, and if we do, in what state of condition the Mav is in when it has the issues.

I have not had any issues with the Maverick yet, but today I was told that early on the dealer network was seeing trans failures on stock Mavericks.

So, if you have had any transmission issues, please let us know here, and what had been done to the Maverick that may have contributed to the failure. Thanks guys!

John
I own a 2022 Maverick XL, 2.0 AWD. The 8 speed transmission failed at 12,000 miles. Dealer said it could not be repaired and ordered a replacement. Have now been waiting 6 weeks for replacement with no word from Ford on when to expect deliver.

I’m curious as to whether this is a one- off or if others experienced similar problems. I have loved my Maverick, but this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth.

It wasn't stated in the initial post, but OP has concerns about the EcoBoost 8-speed automatic, not the Hybrid eCVT.

Did they tell you what failed? Or can you give us a description of what was happening? I think it's pretty rare to see a failure, as many haven't spoken up about it. My guess is Quality Control issues, but who knows.

The transmission failed to engage in the low gears. It would Rev up to 5000or 6000 rpm’s and then slide into third or fourth gear. Wouldn’t go into gear at drive through windows and was scary entering into trap.
Dealer diagnostics detected no particular faults but technicians experienced the same problems on test drive. They chalked it up to a seal failure.
After six and a half weeks, new transmission arrived and was installed. Truck runs great now - even smoother than when new. Makes me kind of think that there was something wrong from the start. Hopefully the problem was a rare occurrence.
The service department at my dealership did a great job. The long wait was frustrating, however.

My Transmission Control Module went out on my 2023 XLT Ecoboost at around 4200 miles. The dealer had it about 10 days. They replaced the TCM and a couple of blown fuses they said.

It seemed to happen all at once. Was driving on a city street about 30-35 mph and all of a sudden grinding noise and I pulled over immediately. Less than 25 feet. The truck dash said overheated engine. I put it in park and it locked down. Wouldn't give me my key and wouldn't do anything. Had to be towed to dealership.

Everything seems to be great now after they replaced the TCM and fuses but I'm afraid the stop (grinding) may have effects down the road. I'm at 7000 now so still 53000 to go under powertrain warranty. Thinking of trading it or buying extended warranty
What do y'all think?

Really pisses me off that Ford only reimbursed me $100 for towing. About 1/3 of the bill. Their roadside assistance was going to take too long and the police said we had to just call the local guy because it wasn't safe where it was to wait there.

I'm more concerned about the Ecoboost 8 speed
I had a Transit Connect Wagon Titanium with the eco boost n 8speed. Before I bought it, I had heard about catastrophic trans failure, usually right after warranty expired, around 70k miles. Mine started really acting up right before I traded it in. @58k miles. I literally limped in to the dealer, but they cleared it, and a couple of days later when an available Mav came in, took it as a trade in. It seemed to be constantly searching for the right gear. I loved the van, but that trans was suspect.

The 8F35 that's in EcoBoost has been around for a long long time, could be a few one-off assembly issues but it's a pretty proven transmission with kinks worked out at this point.
But it's not as proven/durable as the e-cvt.

It's not the first time they have done this sort of posting and it won't be the last. Terrible misinformation and trolling.
Sorry you feel that way. I guess so e people just want to hate their fellow forum members due to disagreements, that's pretty sad.

lol, was there a point there?
The thread is discussing transmission reliability, and potential issues for both powertrains in the maverick. All I said is the e-cvt has a pretty proven and reliable transmission, as we're discussing differences between the two.
