I have a bad TPMS on the left rear wheel, tried resetting and moved to another location and no effect. Never had this happen before on any vehicle. This is a 4 1/2-year-old vehicle with only 40K miles. Should I have all 4 replaced instead of just the bad one?

I have yet to have a TPMS sensor go bad.
You may want to have yours checked first by an independent tire shop. To keep the shop honest. I would not tell them which TPMS you suspect as being bad. They should not even have to start the truck to determine which one is bad.
My 23 drops random TPMS quite frequently. On our fourth of July trip last year. It became a guessing game, which one it was going to be.

Sometimes two at once. All good 35 miles later Like magic. They're both working again.

The sensors are perfectly fine. They always comeback with 20 miles.
I attributed to the cheap computers or terrible software.

Good Luck

If you have a Discount Tire nearby, they will check your sensors for free.
Usually better replacement cost than a dealership as well.

Probably just manufacturing defect on the 1.

Not going to sleep on non-movement like it's supposed to, or way too long before it does - wore the battery out.

I figure it's like these valve cap lights I'll get for the bike for a night ride event.
They are cheap - not spending much money on a once a year event.
The are supposed to light up when they detect movement.
One is supposed to flash lights according to RPM even.
Had a bad one - couldn't detect it was spinning so never turned on.

Yet a simple old one I had was a little wimpy spring inside - when spinning the spring collapsed and battery made contact and it lit up.
That works no problem.

The newer ones using I'm sure a cheap accelerometer chip.

Of course the TPMS is also tracking temp besides pressure. I think I saw a scanner PID on that.

Or just inflate with manual gauge and never check them with the truck.
Or ignore it.
Or replace the bad 1
Or replace 1 bod and 1 good
Or replace all of them
Or ........ Or......... Or........

How many pages can we get? :cwl:

TPMS sensor batteries seem to die in the 5 year range. If you're replacing tires at 4+ years it makes sense to get them replaced at that time. When one dies, the others typically die within the year.

replace them all. Had one fail on my Escape, less than 3 months later, a 2nd failed... Replace the remaining 3.....
Did they state if it failed with dead battery, or battery was good unit was bad?
Or they were already older?

If dead battery, ya in theory a batch could have a set of bad batteries installed, or units are messed up with no auto-off as intended.
If bad unit good battery, ya a batch could be bad boards. That would likely be known with a recall though - as that is a safety item.

But is there some price savings they gave you to replace all 4 at once - since it takes the same amount of time per tire?

Did anyone have a phone or computer connected to USB port? Sometimes will get RF interference from charging cable, or phone/device itself.

In my old F250, wife was charging her IPad and tire alarm came on. Later learn of the interference, and unplug it. No more alarm.

Had a RV with 3rd party TPMS for its tires. Friend had his phone & USB cord. Losing signal from trailer. Switched his USB connection to rear seat connector and trailer sensors ok then.
