We are thinking of getting a travel trailer potentially next year. The few we are looking at are 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, right around 3,000lbs empty with a tongue weight of 355lbs. I know my current hybrid can't tow that but what about the 2.0 with 4k tow package?

Yes. That's what the 4K tow package does. 4K is 4,000 lbs.
I get that but you read a lot of people saying don't push vehicles close to the max limits. Though I'm sure the Maverick can tow more the listed 4k safely. Even my little 2008 kia Sorento had a 5k tow limit...

As a systems engineer I've had this argument with other engineers my entire career. A specified limit is just that. By trying to not come close to the limit you are trying to introduce margin that is already built in. The limit includes margin that is attributable to the dynamics of the system. As the truck/trailer move, the apparent load changes above and below the static 4k. Towing at the 4k limit does not need to be avoided. You'll be fine.

If you're travelling light on gear and not filling water tank I'm guessing you'd be ok. Tongue weight is close to the max even if your trailer is empty. If I remember correctly the EB can handle 400lbs tongue weight.

I would have the tanks empty while travelling. I would have close to 600lbs of people and then gear. Who knows maybe the 25 Maverick will be able to tow 5k... The Santa Cruz has a 5k tow capacity.

Don't forget that surface area will also introduce more work for the truck. Really if you tow at slow speeds much more would be fine- but take it easy the more weight and less aerodynamic you're towing.

I'd like to think you're cutting it a bit closer than I might. Especially if travelling up and down a lot of hills. Ambient temps matter too. If it's really hot then more caution is needed. Can the Mav do the job you're outlining? Probably but if you DID have any issues and were found to over the weight the truck can handle warranty repairs might be dicey.

Consult the Ford towing guide - as noted, the front surface area of the trailer is important to consider. Wind resistance gets pretty large as you increase the frontal size, and that puts a great deal of load on the vehicle's drive train when you start increasing speed.

I have no idea what the front surface area is of a 8 foot wide travel trailer.

In my opinion, if you are going to tow a trailer like that you should really upgrade the intercooler on the EB. The OEM cooler is grossly undersized and intake temps will get hot quickly. Then the ECU pulls timing and there goes your power, adding further strain to the drivetrain. It was the first upgrade I did along with catch can as soon as I drove off the lot. From my perspective it is a durability upgrade.

Well, with 4K Tow you're limited to 40 sq.ft. of frontal surface area. So, take the 8' width of the trailer you're considering and multiply it by its frontal height and there's your answer. 👍

If that is a camper trailer it would be WAY OVER on the max frontal area of 40 sq ft. That's a 5X8' frontal area on the trailer.

Warranty repairs will be null and void if they find out you exceeded max capacity and the repair can be attributed to it.
