I've Pulled my R pod 180 , 2950 dry weight , running with about 300 lbs of additional gear , clothes , pots and pans dishes , lawn chairs and so on with about 10 gallons of fresh water on board. Flat land towing at 100 kilometres Per Hour (62MPH)
I did a 1200 km trip . Half of it into a 30 k head wind and pretty much no wind on the way home.
My overall trip was 15L/100 kilometres on fuel , i was very impressed .
I could not believe how well the 2.0 Eco boost pulled , ran about 2200 rpm all the time , i said to my wife it had traits of a diesel while pulling (Retired Truck Driver) . No transmission searching at all. Held the gears real well.
I know this sounds crazy but it pulls nicer than my 2013 Silverado 5.3
The only thing i noticed was the trailer dance a little on the rear. Might add a sway bar control to it.
We want to do some Long distance travel across the country , So ive been sitting on the fence about upgrading to the Ranger just to have a little more tow capacity .
Over all these are amazing capable trucks.

Nice! That R-pod is similar in length and weight to the Keystone Hideout 175HB we are looking at.

We are thinking of getting a travel trailer potentially next year. The few we are looking at are 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, right around 3,000lbs empty with a tongue weight of 355lbs. I know my current hybrid can't tow that but what about the 2.0 with 4k tow package?
Yes 100 percent, I’ve hauled that without issue. Obviously be careful in the wind but yes it can be done

I get that but you read a lot of people saying don't push vehicles close to the max limits. Though I'm sure the Maverick can tow more the listed 4k safely. Even my little 2008 kia Sorento had a 5k tow limit...
Indeed it can. I haul my 16’ enclosed trailer with my car and gear to the track all the time. Hauled over 8k back to Michigan from south Texas. Haul about the same from NY city to Mich. it’s a very capable truck. Obviously I’m not pushing it 80mph all the time. Depending on roads it’s 65-75 and the maverick is very happy. Just sent my oil analysis off this week to see how that looks after the heavy towing.

As a systems engineer I've had this argument with other engineers my entire career. A specified limit is just that. By trying to not come close to the limit you are trying to introduce margin that is already built in. The limit includes margin that is attributable to the dynamics of the system. As the truck/trailer move, the apparent load changes above and below the static 4k. Towing at the 4k limit does not need to be avoided. You'll be fine.
Only issue with that while talking g trucks is no Standard way to measure for towing. Until recently it was manufacturers setting them. Hence why nothing would change on a full size from one year to another but the tow rating based on competition. Now almost are are going to adopt the sae standards which will help and bring in the margins you are referring to.

I really want an R-pod 180.

I can rent one though. Then not have to store it.

I've pulled that same trailer with the Hybrid 50 miles at 60 mph. Hardly knew it was behind my truck. (My hybrid has an added 7 pin connector and trailer brake controller.)

Pulled it up something like 14% grade in a residential area, at 25 mph, just a quarter mile, but the torque was there.

If you're nearing the towing limit, I'd say anything over 3,000 pounds, or you're towing in the mountains, I'd put a Scangauge on it so you can monitor the transmission temp, engine temp and the percent of horsepower you're using.
I tow a 2,500 pound (loaded) camper with the MAV/4K tow package and don't have a problem but if I was towing close to 4,000 pounds in the hills I'd go with something with a higher towing capacity.

Towing capacity is one, and only one, part of the overall equation. The other key components are truck payload and Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating (GCVWR). Up here in Canada, if you are involved in a serious accident whilst towing, the police will check your combined weight to see if it is under the GCVWR. If it's over, your insurance (more than likely) won't cover you.

That's a really good point, and I suspect that it holds true here in the US too.

The 4K towing package has a GCWR of 8085 pounds, whereas the non-4K package has a GCWR of 5935 to 6175 depending on options. Basically, a 2000 pound GCWR difference. The GCWR includes the vehicle, trailer, and all passengers and cargo.

With a GCWR of 8085lbs then that would leave me with about 4400lbs (figure the Mav weighs around 3650lb) left for people, gear and Trailer.

I'd like to see your math on that.
You have at maximum 1500lbs of payload. Less depending on configuration. My FX4 with 4K tow has like 1418lbs payload. Your tow capacity is 4K, period. That 4K does not affect the payload, however, trailer tongue weight does. The payload is your occupants, gear, and trailer tongue weight. Anything your are carrying. Your are not carrying the towed vehicle. If you follow the maximum payload and towed vehicle limit of 4k you will not exceed the GCVWR.
Check the sticker on the drivers door pillar. That's what you need to know.

ScanGauge or ODBII scanner of some sort is basically a must-have while towing if you ask me. It was the first thing I added to my truck at 1 month of ownership. Then came the 7-pin and brake controller.

With up to 70 values to monitor, I know just what my truck can do. In the mountains. Towing. On a 100 degree day.

According to the Ford web site, the Maverick weighs between 3600 and 3750 depending on options. AWD is a little heavier than FWD, of course.

Your GVWR minus vehicle weight is basically your payload including passengers, and everything else you might carry. The tongue weight of a trailer is also part of that payload.

Tongue weight gets us F-150 guys - my truck should be able to tow 11,200 pounds, but with a 10% tongue weight, that has me eating up 1120 pounds of my payload, leaving about 500-700 for passengers and gear. Realistically, outside of short local tows, I wouldn't want to tow more than about 8000 pounds with that truck. Now, there is a heavy duty payload package that will work, but if you're going to do that, might as well get an F-250 instead.

The GCWR is the combined weight maximum. The trailer + truck + everything inside of the trailer and truck should not exceed the GCWR.

I've got a'24 EcoBoost FX4 4K and am contemplating the T@b 320S. I'd be interested in learning more about your experience pulling this rig. It seems like a perfect pairing for the Maverick. I'm appreciative of any information you can share.
