Ford Maverick Tonneau cover - the difference in mileage? 1640752324977

Wondering if Hybrid owners have noticed a difference in mileage. On an old, full size, truck a cover reduces drag by 5% to 6%. That should equal about 2% increase in mileage. However, with the Hybrid's highway mileage being largely influenced by drag (33 v 42) has anyone noticed an even greater benefit?

The CyberTruck is more aerodynamically slick than it looks and that is largely influenced by its cover which is probably worth 7% to 10% according to an expert on Autoline. Notice the Rivian also ships with a tonneau on every truck.

I haven’t been satisfied with any test I’ve seen about bed cover fuel savings due to aerodynamic efficiency. I’ve seen the mythbusters, and it’s so minimal and very limited to generalize to all trucks and all covers. Overall, I’m completely skeptical that it has the 2% fuel efficiency savings you mention, just my opinion from what I’ve seen and I’d love to be proven wrong with solid testing. I’ve likewise read that a lack of bed cover is better due to a turbulent bubble-tumble of air developing in the bed cavity. I dont think it matters enough either way to justify it as a basis for having a cover or not.

I'd bet dollars against donut holes that you're 100% right, but I like the way a cover looks, it adds a little security, and if it has a chance of giving me an extra 1 mpg on the highway that would be a well-received bonus. I'm buying one if I ever get a truck to put it on.

I would easily believe 2% since the Maverick is otherwise a pretty clean design.

Ford pays a lot of attention to the back of the cab and the top of the tailgate. There was a video series on the F150’s aero and it was pretty amazing how good Ford was able to mitigate the big scoop in the back.

Back when I flew T34’s having the canopies open would really slow it down and even vent windows make a noticeable difference in some of the small aircraft I fly these days.

I couldn't notice any difference tailgate up or down so I don't think I'll notice any difference with the cover. The bed is largely in the dead area of the cab is why.
