Most people's power concerns, at least the people I've met, seem related to acceleration. There's this expectation people people have that being able to accelerate fast will save them - That getting up quick from zero will get them out of harms way, or that boosting from 60 to 80 in a second on the highway will make merging and lane changes wreck-preventing maneuvers.

In reality, outside of a few well trained people with lots of experience, that kind of power/maneuvering tends to put people into guard rails and other people's fenders.

190hp on a vehicle of this size is perfectly fine, and I'm surprised the rise of 120ish hp 4-cylinder engines with atrocious acceleration hasn't shown people that yes, bad acceleration feels bad, but its really not a problem in the great scheme of things.
As someone who drives a 140hp 08 civic on highways where people average 85mph+. Merging can be downright dangerous. I will never buy a car with that low HP ever again and will turn down the hybrid Maverick I have on order if it feels equally sluggish.

Maybe its not a problem if all you do is drive 40 mph in cities... but its horrible on the highway.

I used to have a 2007 Mazda 3 that had an 8.5 second 0-60. The Hybrid Maverick is supposed to have about the same 0-60. My Mazda could jump off the line at the stop light and get to 70 by the end of the freeway onramp just fine. The acceleration of cars is mostly limited by how far people press the gas pedal down. If you want to accelerate, you will do it just fine.

To be fair the maximum speed limit up till the mid 90s was 55mph... now the average is 65-80 on highways. There is a trending up of speed limits on average, which demands more power to handle high speed passing and acceleration onto a 80mph highway (where people are doing 90 avg).
If I may quote Sam Hagar, "I can't drive 55!" and I didn't even when it was the law!!

I will note that comparing Escape performance of the hybrid 2.5L vs. 2.0L EcoBoost, the latter always wins, but the margin shrinks to ~0.5 sec. for top gear acceleration, 30-50 and 50-70.

Merging on highways could be a problem in the maveric when semis and all the large trucks with over 300hp smashing in the right lane at 80 mph....
We have a Honda Fit with 128hp, and a 98 Ranger automatic that was about 120hp new, I'm pretty sure some of those are missing. The only time merging is a problem is when there's some idiot ahead that doesn't accelerate until they are 10 feet from the end of the ramp.

I prefer something faster. My daily driver is a Mazda CX5 with 250HP and 310 torque. It is not a race car and can handle traffic and highways fine. Also, I enjoy people’s faces when they cannot “squeeze” into my space, while driving.

On my daily commute, I can either drive 6 miles using the highway for 1-2 if them, or 5 miles using a 40 mph road with stop lights. With my hybrid on the way, I'm planning on taking the shorter, non-highway road.

I currently drive a Ford focus. 🤷‍♂️. It has similar power to weight as the hybrid Mav. I think I'll miss my stick. I like being able to anticipate and get into a lower gear instead of punch it, then a second later I get moving. I don't really know how the eCVT works in that regard, but I'm resolved, it's a great value and right for my family.

My problem is people drive incredibly fast and dumb over here. Especially ever since the whole pandemic started the speed limit went up unofficially to like 75 to 80 from 60.

Merging on highways could be a problem in the maveric when semis and all the large trucks with over 300hp smashing in the right lane at 80 mph....
If the speed limit is 65, I drive 65. Since breaking into the Hybrid world back in 2019 I go the speed limit and just pick a lane. I try to stay in the outside (slow) lane unless there are 3 lanes then I stay in the middle. YEP, they fly past me. I just look at my average MPG and smile. I just stay on the porch now, no more running with the big dogs. But at almost 67, I figured it was time to be safe instead of dumb. But that's how I do it.

Lol come to fl. 🤣😂 limit is 70 only time u see that is in rush hour otherwise if ur not doing 85 someone's running u off the road
Man, I used to not care about other people, but it seems everyone has a 6 inch lift on their Sierra or f150. Then they tailgate the fk out of you with their misaligned headlights. Then proceed to pass you on the right, or on the shoulder going like 120.

Don't get me started on the Diesel guys trying to flex on the interstate.

I have seen a lot of people worrying about the power of the Mav. It blows my mind where we are today. The low end Mav has 190+herspers. The EB has 250. The 1994 f150 six banger had a measly 145 herspers. For those of you who say, well that was the lowly six banger Ill raise you the 1994 FORD LIGHTNING had 240 and weight 4800 pounds! I have never heard in my life anyone say that truck was under powered. The 1990 1500 SS had 240 horses. These were the PERFORMANCE trucks of the day! Go back to the 80 and its uglier. In this day and age of 700 horsepower trucks people have forgotten that even 400 herspers is A LOT OF POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have become spoiled to super powered trucks. My 94 150 with a 5.0 was rated at 195 herspers. I put 300k on that engine towing boats and trailers across the South. It was NEVER underpowered.

So bottom line people, the 190 out of the Hybrid is enough. More than enough. As much as a V8 in the 90s. The EB is more than the PERFORMANCE TRUCKS of the 90s. Dont worry about the power of this truck. It is by far more than enough and more than most of us grew up with.
Well stated and timely! Good job!

I can't count how many times I have been forced off the road in the back woods I live in because I have been blinded by some jerk who's blazing xenons at sedan window level.

They will have plenty of power for normal driving conditions including towing. These will not be sports cars but you wont ever feel like you will need more power. Keep in mind they also weigh around 3600lbs which is 1,000+ lbs less than most other 4 door trucks today.
Some may forget, the last Ford small truck similar to the Maverick was the 2010 Sport Trac. It weighed 4500lbs, had 210 HP, and got and average 18 MPG. Now we have the Maverick Hybrid at 1000lbs less weight, 40MPG, and 191HP... That is amazing...
