I have seen a lot of people worrying about the power of the Mav. It blows my mind where we are today. The low end Mav has 190+herspers. The EB has 250. The 1994 f150 six banger had a measly 145 herspers. For those of you who say, well that was the lowly six banger Ill raise you the 1994 FORD LIGHTNING had 240 and weight 4800 pounds! I have never heard in my life anyone say that truck was under powered. The 1990 1500 SS had 240 horses. These were the PERFORMANCE trucks of the day! Go back to the 80 and its uglier. In this day and age of 700 horsepower trucks people have forgotten that even 400 herspers is A LOT OF POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have become spoiled to super powered trucks. My 94 150 with a 5.0 was rated at 195 herspers. I put 300k on that engine towing boats and trailers across the South. It was NEVER underpowered.

So bottom line people, the 190 out of the Hybrid is enough. More than enough. As much as a V8 in the 90s. The EB is more than the PERFORMANCE TRUCKS of the 90s. Dont worry about the power of this truck. It is by far more than enough and more than most of us grew up with.

To be fair the maximum speed limit up till the mid 90s was 55mph... now the average is 65-80 on highways. There is a trending up of speed limits on average, which demands more power to handle high speed passing and acceleration onto a 80mph highway (where people are doing 90 avg).

They will have plenty of power for normal driving conditions including towing. These will not be sports cars but you wont ever feel like you will need more power. Keep in mind they also weigh around 3600lbs which is 1,000+ lbs less than most other 4 door trucks today.

Sure, but expectations have gotten larger as well.
How much did the trailers back then weigh? And the trucks themselves?
Power to weight ratio and total gear ratio is very important to give good comparison.

My 94 Camaro Z28 w/corvette LT1 engine and Borg-Warner 6-speed (manual) transmission is rated at 275 HP. My 2015 F150 3.5L EB is...365 HP.

The Camaro can smoke the tires in at least the first three gears. It just amazes me how much the HP (and torque) has gone up in the past decade.

Yes, we are spoiled and I believe the Hybrid 2.5L will be "good enough".

My 2.5l 205 HP Lexus has more power than I can handle in Economy Mode. If I put it in Normal or Sport, the MPG will drop but you'll need a racing harness to stay in the truck. I think the 2.5l 191 HP will be more than enough.

I definitely expect it to be far more sporty than my 2017 impreza.
After accounting for the heavier vehicle I calculate 60% higher hp than I have right now.

So bottom line people, the 190 out of the Hybrid is enough. More than enough. As much as a V8 in the 90s.
Reminds me of my neighbor, he complains that it takes him 15 mins every morning to get the vehicle to turn over. You'd be lucky to get up to pressure in a Stanley Steamer in double that time. Damn whippersnappers!

Kidding aside, as the subforum title suggests its all relative to its current model year competition.

To measure that a bit more objectively, ranked from slowest to quickest:

Santa Cruz SE: 3,704lbs/191hp = ~19.4 lbs/hp
Maverick Hybrid: 3,674lbs/191hp = ~19.2 lbs/hp
Ford Ranger AWD: 4,441lbs/270hp = ~16.4 lbs/hp
Toyota Tacoma: 4550lbs/278hp = ~16.4 lbs/hp
Jeep Gladiator AWD: 4650lbs/285hp = ~16.3 lbs/hp
Chevy Colorado Bison: 4955lbs/305hp = ~16.2 lbs/hp
Honda Ridgeline AWD: 4510lbs/280hp = ~16.1 lbs/hp
Nissan Frontier: 4,709lbs/310hp = ~15.2 lbs/hp
Maverick Ecoboost AWD: 3,731lbs/250hp = ~14.9 lbs/hp
Santa Cruz Premium AWD: 4,101lbs/281hp = ~14.6 lbs/hp

So of the smallerish pickups, the Maverick Hybrid will be one of the slowest, and the Maverick Ecoboost will be one of the quickest in class. Personally, I don't mind being one of the slowest in exchange for also being the most fuel efficient by a huge margin.

My problem is people drive incredibly fast and dumb over here. Especially ever since the whole pandemic started the speed limit went up unofficially to like 75 to 80 from 60.

Merging on highways could be a problem in the maveric when semis and all the large trucks with over 300hp smashing in the right lane at 80 mph....

I had a 1992 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 and for the time, it was a very quick car. It only had 225HP and 300lb/ft of torque.

My wife's 2019 CX-5 has 187 hp, weighs about 3600 lbs and has plenty of power for us. I just can't imagine what 250 hp will feel like in my new Maverick!

Most people's power concerns, at least the people I've met, seem related to acceleration. There's this expectation people people have that being able to accelerate fast will save them - That getting up quick from zero will get them out of harms way, or that boosting from 60 to 80 in a second on the highway will make merging and lane changes wreck-preventing maneuvers.

In reality, outside of a few well trained people with lots of experience, that kind of power/maneuvering tends to put people into guard rails and other people's fenders.

190hp on a vehicle of this size is perfectly fine, and I'm surprised the rise of 120ish hp 4-cylinder engines with atrocious acceleration hasn't shown people that yes, bad acceleration feels bad, but its really not a problem in the great scheme of things.

Sure I love going fast as everyone else except here we have total gridlock as well in these times.

We have way too many people from Cali driving like crazy. I can tell with all the dumb people cutting in and out of traffic thinking they will end up ahead and instead they end up in somebody's rear end... Or stuck behind traffic.

I know what acceleration feels like and yes I would like to have brisk acceleration from 40 to 60 and from 60 to 75 when needed
