I'm sitting in my truck during lunch hour reading MTC.

I'm in the driver's seat for just about 30 minutes without ever starting the truck, turning the key, or using any accessories.

30 minutes in: a bunch of clicking and clanking. No big deal. I've heard stuff like this before. It's like relays and contactors opening and closing. Even the hydraulic brake pressure can pressure up in anticipation of you driving, then release the pressure 10, 15, or maybe 30 minutes after no driving takes place. No big deal.

But then, 1 minute later it does it again. And again. And again. And again at 1 minute intervals all this clicking and clanking. I start getting curious. Maybe a little worried. I put my phone down.

The next episode of clicking and clanking the blue needles on the dash are moving. Bouncing. Wiggling. Not full sweeps. Just wiggles up and down of a few degrees of arc. Weird.

Repeats at 1 minute intervals.
Like the truck is in a feedback loop.

The truck is completely "off". As far "off" as I can get it anyway.

After 5 or 6 episodes I start the truck and drive away normally.

Maybe this is happening to people with dead or low or deep sleep batteries. Maybe the truck is doing weird stuff like this and no one was there to see it, mysteriously draining the battery?

Gauges were off (no key) but
Moving. I have XLT with key start. My cluster is not cracked. It's a reflection.

Probably detected that the key was close by and kept pre conditioning everything anticipating a start. Not sure why it needs to do that and why it can’t just do that when you push the start button or turn the key… Would be interesting if it would do the same thing with no key close by. Or it could be the connectivity features detecting your phone. Would be interesting to do a few test. If it still does it with the key far away turn off all the cell and Wi-Fi connectivity features.

Probably as good an explanation as anything else. We really don't know what goes on with the truck when we're not sitting in it. Transformers?

Key close? Sure. But it was close the whole time. And why at 30 minutes in? And why six times (at least) at 1 minute intervals. I don't think this was a "feature". More like a "bug".

I've had the Escape do that. I've never been able to figure out why but have just to come to accept it. Downside of die-by-wire systems, I guess.

In the standard Ford flip remote keys there is no way for the truck to "know the key is close" it only transmits when you push a button. The Lariat however is a prox and will send a signal to the truck when close. Couldnt say as far as the phone but thats a long shot - its possible because of sitting in the truck the seat sensor is activated ?

Well that was my belief as well.
I thought I had a basic older style key fob with the XLT and believe I do.

Evidenced by the fact my Chevy Bolt (with proximity detect) would beep at me any time I left a key anywhere inside the vehicle and exited. My Maverick only beeps at me if I exit with the key in the ignition. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm waiting on Maverick, I was driving new loaded explorer (Driving job) & was sitting in vehicle with ignition off(push start) opened door after turning vehicle off to make sure accessories were off & same thing occurred., sound of relays clicking (sounded like overhead, in headliner??)& park brake light on dash goes on then off. This would continually happen after time intervals while I was sitting in vehicle, kind of strange, but vehicle functions ok while driving. Explorer is brand new less than one thousand miles. Has rotary shifter like mavericks.

My XL gets active whenever I approach it with the key in my pocket, it definitely has some level of prox sensing.

Can you get on video what's occurring?
And make sure you don't press any button by accident?

Thanks.

I can't witness other people's conditions but if you drove, parked, then re-approached your Mav within 30 minutes, you may be hearing a power down sequence by coincidence and interpret that as the vehicle detected you approaching.

But, we all need further evidence. Thanks.

P.S. If it were due to the key, it should be reproducible every single time. Right?
