I have a 2024 Maverick lariat that is two years old with 26,000 miles. So Today was the third time I went to the dealer for the battery being dead 🫩 The vehicle wouldn’t start. It Wouldn’t actually do anything ! But once I jumpstarted it was OK . I took it into the dealer two times before they did some new downloads something Ford recommended and charged the battery and sent me out the door eventually the battery would go into sleep mode no interior lights, passenger side door, would not lock or unlock from the outside things like that . but today they said the battery was defective and replaced it with a new battery a AMG 👍

Did they keep the vehicle overnight so that the BCM was properly reset? While it was there they also needed to set the maximum charge by the DC-DC to 90%, or preferably 95%. By default the Maverick is set to only charge an AGM battery to 80%, which for an AGM is inappropriate. It will shorten the life of an AGM. An AGM is supposed to be rapidly fully recharged to near 100% charge. Anything less will cause the premature death of an AGM.

Been there, done that with a 24 Lariat hybrid. They eventually gave up and it ended in a buyback. It was a real good time. Hopefully you didn't get yours at auction because that's where they end up.

There's no way to change the charge target with Ford's proprietary software. Has to be done with FORscan, unfortunately.

I was a lucky one as well. Took my 2024 hybrid in for the defunct battery problem. He said they charged it to full and it was ok. Then they let it sit a while and when they tested a second time it said the lead-acid battery was bad. So they put in a new AGM, yay! Looking over the invoice that is all I can tell they did.

When they put in the AGM the first time isn't there something they need to set to tell the system that it is an AGM now and not lead-acid? How would I discover what it is and if it needs reset? If there is an AGM battery setting, will that also reset the max charge values?

Thanks!

If you have a really good service department at your dealership they can do this. Or, as you said you can do it with Forscan. I would never use that while the vehicle is under warranty as any mistep could void the warranty.

The Maverick hybrid's settings are all already set for an AGM battery. What many dealers fail to do after putting in the AGM is following exactly the procedure to reset the BCM. That involves locking the doors and not entering the vehicle for more than 8 hours. It is a mandatory procedure after putting in a fully charged new AGM battery. It's in your owners manual.

Aha! I got the new battery yesterday, so if I do the reset tonight then that should take care of it? It's the pull the turn signal 5 times thing, ....,
right?

So. Defective battery. That's an easy one, but, makes me nervous. In over 50 years of driving I've never had a bad (well, maybe one) battery. And now, here is a lot of them. It happened to me after some service and one day "no start, nothing". Not so bad in the summer when I can take the motorcycle but in the winter I'm screwed.
Wondering if it's really just a bad battery or root cause is something else?
