So, I did the oil change at 1050 miles. The filter was not dirty at all and seemed that it can take another 4 thousand miles.
The oil looks green but not sure how dirty as I have never seen greenish oil before.
I used new gasket bought from amazon - 15 for $6. Had the gas engine on for several minutes and there was no oil leak.
The process was fairly simple. One question - there is no enclosure in the middle of the under cover?

The break-in oil is tinted green.

After initial change, you can safely use the intelligent Oil Life Monitor to let you know when it's time to change the Hybrid motor oil again. It takes into account how many miles the gasoline engine runs, how you drive and also time, plus other factors. If you drive very little, it will also tell you to change it after about a year.

Make sure you Reset the Oil Life Monitor after each oil change. You access/reset it via the menu controls on the steering wheel.

So, by the looks of your photo, there is a plastic panel that you can remove to gain access to the drain plug? Or, did you have to remove the entire panel to access both the drain plug and the oil filter?

Had to open the entire panel to gain access.
Wondering if it is normal to have 4x4 opening or the dealer messed it up?

The first oil change is to get rid of all the micro filaments that come off of a brand new engine. You don't want little pieces of metal going through your system.

I don't have that opening. Not sure when or how you got your panel.
That is how I got the truck brand new. Time to contact the dealer? BTW mine is XL.

That is how I got the truck brand new.
Does it allow access to drain the oil? (but not filter?). Is there a removable cover for that opening?

Without getting into a heated debate i would go by miles driven based on your driving style and where you drive as to when to change the oi.

Hole in the splash panel - initially when Mavs came out there was a cover but FoMoCo issued a TSB to remove it b/c as I recall, something about cooling or fire or ??. So what you saw is normal.

At 1050 miles, your ICE had been running maybe 60% and the truck ran on electric 40% meaning your oil had about 600 miles of use. You can determine this by looking at the trip monitor screen that shows for each trip, how many miles were electric and use that as a guide.

There is hybrid specific synthetic oil. It has more anti-acid ingredients because the ICE in hybris frequently do not fully get up to operating temps, especially in short run driving where a hybrid has a comparative mpg advantage running in electric mode.

Nice work! It's good to have that feeling of accomplishment.

Tell me more about these gaskets you bought - the drain plug has a green oring built into it that is apparently reusable for quite a few oil changes and seals up nicely.

I've changed my oil every 5000 miles. My son in law changed the oil in their Escape by the oil monitor and at 130000 miles it was useing a quart every 1000 miles. Found out the oil rings were carboned up and sticking. On his cars since he has changed at 5000 miles with no problems. I don't agree with those oil monitors
