The perception has moved from seeing it as just a cool, affordable truck to recognizing it as a well-engineered vehicle that justifies its higher price.
What? When people with mechanical knowledge look at the Maverick, usually the first thing they mention is the use of super cheap, low end parts, old engine designs with known flaws and issues when it comes to long term ownership. Think again.

If you look closely at the 300+k GTD mustang, it has the same interior as a 5.0 or a 2.3, this ain't nothing new from ford
yeah but a lariat is not a race car compared to a xl lol. Point being your paying 1/3 more on the price of the vehicle for nonsense.

But whatever it’s not my money. Only beef I have with it is that Ford then thinks they can jack up the price of the base models because a few yahoos spend money like it’s water. This is why price on trucks have skyrocketed. People taking 84 month loans on $85000 trucks. And ford makes bank on cheap vehicles loaded with nonsense options

Truck tax. The Maverick has it because all trucks have it. Go look at any vehicle dollar for dollar and it will be better appointed in most areas. Gotta have a truck, like me, then pay the tax.

As I await my new 2025 Tremor, I realize the Maverick mentality has changed significantly. I became a fan in 2021 when the Maverick was first announced and received one of the first XLT FX4s delivered in Southern California. I'm still driving it today, and it meets all my needs. When I bought it in 2022, I was on a tight budget. Things have improved, and I recently ordered my dream Maverick—the new Tremor. Living in Baja, I have access to vast off-road terrain.

A few weeks ago, I posted how $40,000 is the new normal for Mavericks. Reflecting on this and seeing the comments, I've noticed a shift in pride of ownership. While we're spending more, the recent upgrades have enhanced the vehicle's quality and appeal.

The perception has moved from seeing it as just a cool, affordable truck to recognizing it as a well-engineered vehicle that justifies its higher price.
Reading the comments, I didn't expect my differing perspective to spark so much discussion. The transition from a 2022 FX4 to a 2025 Tremor includes many significant changes. Aside from normal inflation, the truck was undervalued at release and is now priced at current market values.

I doubt anyone can find a better all-purpose vehicle with similar features—like enhanced 4WD, improved safety, a more advanced engine, a high-quality B&O sound system, and a usable truck bed—especially at a comparable price for a smaller vehicle. (I did my research and still came back to the Maverick)

Criticize all you want, but I'm looking forward to enjoying the upgrades to my 2022 model.

Here's my take on the change in mentallity. We have 3 in the familiy now. 22 XLT, 24 XL, 25 XLT. Functionally they are all the same. The new XLT cost 10 grand more than the 22. (this includes AWD)
Okay, here it is.. At the indroduction pricing, buying a Maverick was an absolute NO BRAINER !!

It was shocking that Ford ever considered that pricing. 21 grand for a truck that gets 40mpg ?
A cheaper Prius alternative that isn't shaped like an econobox! I never even thought about getting a truck before.
We ordered 2 the first day. 1 got lost by the dealer .. If you got one at msrp, cool. We all did good.

Now to today. The current Maverick pricing means you need to decide if the vehicle is the right choice for you. There are lots of decent cars in this range. I understand why so many people here are deciding to pass on their 25 orders. Gone are the days of the impulse purchase, where you could flip it for a 3-5 grand profit if you decided a truck wasn't for you.

The my25 still fits my needs and has a few good upgrades. I did look hard at Mazda CX50 but right now I like to go camping.

Why did this thread bring the RadioHead song "Creep" to my mind? Maybe because my lowly 2022 XLT is so horribly deficient?. I guess I'm a lowly 2022 XLT creep. Definitely not good enough to drive the same roads as 2025 Lariats or Lobos.

Oh wait, I'm not the lowliest of the low! There are all those XL guys! Yea! I can lord it over them! Hey all you lowly XL guys and gals, you can sign this song when I drive by.

PS: Because MTC members all too often show really poor humor detection skills, I need to explicitly state that this is meant to be funny. Maybe it's not funny, but it was meant to be. And at least it's a good song.

The 20k was an introductory, loss-leader price to kickstart sales. It worked.

When you factor in inflation, and leave out the artificially low price on the very base first year, price has not increased all that much.

Since the 83-84 recession (the last "real" recession before the ones millennial writes fancy "the Great Recession"), we've been spoiled by dollars being worth roughly the same amount from year to year. Covid spending, for better or worse, shattered this over 21-23. Dollars simply aren't worth what they used to be, so it takes more to buy the same things.

Hence why the truck was designed to reduce that loss as much as possible.
When you design a truck with that starting price it will show. And it still shows in 2025 as majority of fundamentals remain unchanged.

I mean, if you forget the 20k intro price, and any prior pricing.

you have to find a competitor in the same price range, if you needed a vehicle today. you are buying what?

I chose ford 25 maverick lariat. 40k loaded vehicle, is right in the norm in pricing of any other regular vehicle, it's a small pickup, hybrid, and awd. and my order is below 40k. 39,980 once I use the farmer discount code lol.

my gf's nissan rogue is 38k. my grandmas new Honda CRV is 42k hybrid though.
I am paying 40k.

seems pretty average

I think that's just you.

I think it is over-priced and under-built.

It may be under-built compared to some of the high-end vehicles available in the world but it's probably as well-built as most of the other offerings out there. As for over-priced, seriously, is there anything available out there that's not over-priced? Even with all the increased "safety" features and the advanced electronics and all other improvements they're all over-priced... but we pay for 'em, don't we? Suppose maybe somebody will bring back the Soviet era Zaz, Gaz, or Lada?

Tart it up all you want, it's still a cheap lightweight little truck. No way you could convince me to spend $40K+ on one. At that price point, I'm going a bit more and looking at a Ranger.
