2023 Maverick Hybrid Lariat I'm back to talk about that proverbial question when do you do the oil change. My last oil change was at $15,000 miles I had a synthetic oil and filter change tire rotation etc at the dealer of which I wont do again via the dealer. The dealer sticker on the windshield says come in at 25000 miles; now at 24700 I'm getting alerts on my Ford app and in the vehicle that I'm due for an oil change. I was hoping to wait until 30,000 miles so I could do it all at that one time transmission oil change the full 30,000 maintenance. However now I'm getting nervous if I don't do this oil change within 450 mi which the app is telling me to do will my vehicle suffer irrefutable damage? Thank you

But they will have an easy claim that you did not follow the maintenance schedule, if you happen to have any issues this could attempt to tie this too that might have fallen under warranty.

Since tranny service is longer than 30K, so you are willing to do that earlier - just do that a tad earlier yet.

Your app says what %, may even say how many miles.

What are those figures?
ETA: sounds like 450 miles.
Do tranny early if you were going to anyway.

The damage has already been done. Make sure you follow the Ford Recommended oil change interval in order to preserve your warranty. You’ll need it!

If the vehicle says it needs an oil change now, don't wait 5,000 miles. A few hundred miles here and there isn't going to make the engine explode, but 10,000 miles is a good average distance between oil changes based on the OLM. Going 50% beyond that is absolutely not a good idea.

My read on the recommended service intervals puts us squarely in the "every 5,000 mile range" as our driving is in extended periods of 100F+ summer months, driving over 6,000 to sometimes 10,000 foot mountain passes that are found out west, and a lot of local stop and go driving in summer heat with it constantly switching the ICE on and off as it goes into and out of All Electric mode. That is hard on an engine so it puts us in severe use range on the chart.

Well, that is indeed "your read," not necessarily Ford's.

The table I posted from the manual says "when to expect the reminder," not "here are the conditions an owner should use to make his own determination."

What we can assume from that is that the OLM already knows the temperature you're operating at, how long you're idling, your trip durations, and the load on the engine - and that the OLM will determine what "duty level" you're using the truck at. Meaning, if the OLM thinks you are at "severe duty," then you likely are - and logically, you could then roll out that determination to any of the other maintenance items like air filters and transmission fluid etc.

But as always, people are just going to do whatever they want. Party on.

and continuously, year after year, mile after mile, without a glitch or hiccup. And the algorithm Ford uses to interpret all those sensors is robust & bug free.

I trust a dumb sensor designed by Ford's engineering as much as I trust their charging and discharging algorithms that cause the deep sleep problems.

And you are assuming the odometer is correct. And that the oil in the jug is the oil you paid for. And that the oil you paid for does what it says. And that the filter you put in does what it is supposed to. And that the engine oil pump is doing what it is supposed to. And that the oil passages throughout the engine... Where does it stop?

What you've just reinforced is that when people really want to do something, they will make up any excuse to justify their belief that they can, no matter how far-fetched. Whether that is using your "brian" productively or not is questionable.

I certainly don’t assume my odometer is perfect or my “miles to empty” is accurate. I don’t even pay attention to “miles to empty” and my odo reading will be useful when I sell my car.

Everybody treats their engines differently. I do like to check my Oil Life indicator and think it is a cool feature.

But there is no doubt a Hybrid Owner who changes their oil every 5,000 miles has a healthier engine than the OP doing 15,000 mile changes.

Healthier Bearings, Pistons, piston rings, cylinder walls, Camshaft and lifters, cam lobes and followers, "cam walk", Crankshaft & journals, Valve train (rockers, pushrods), Sludge and varnish buildup, Overheating, etc.

The difference will be night & day!

I would be curious - how many miles since last OLM reset do you show at say 50 or 25% OLM?

Since it claims to attempt to follow what that chart says - yours should be like other posters, and be on aim for 5-7.5K miles.

But I've only heard from 3 different posters where they showed that shortened schedule was being followed. Others didn't notice, or not in that severe range for driving.

Actually poster was coming up on 10K miles.

Just did mine at 11112 miles and 1% OLM - but that's closer to 5.5K on the ICE, probably because I had some long highway miles there, and did no better than 50% EV.

XLT pre-25MY - so no extended figures for amount of EV miles sadly.

Have you ever noticed how many miles since last oil/filter change when the OLM is saying 50%, since you are glancing at it?

We are nearing our third oil change and dealer services called for by the manual at 15,000 miles. First one was at 5,000, the second at 10,000 miles.
