We go through life expecting that we are buying what we are being sold.
Gasoline is not a back room sort of industry. If you are buying gas from a reputable station that says Top Tier then I would ASSume it most likely is!

Just like I hope the oil change place is really putting synthetic oil in my truck, or they are actually using real air when they fill the tires.
Or when I buy a Subway crab meat sub that it’s really crab meat.

One of those is a joke BTW.

Any Top Tier octane level will contain the same cleaning additives fyi. However, they squirt more additive into the tank truck depending on octane level being transported.

This will not improve performance - at least in the short term. In the long term, however, a slightly cleaner engine raised on higher octane will perform better.
First, IDK. I don't work for an oil company, but what I've read/seen over the years, from a variety of sources, is that all octane grades have the same amount of additives.

A quick google search will explain how the brands get different amounts of additives into their octanes. Did not mean to derail this post on performance though - since additives play such a minimal part in short term performance.

Not trying to be argumentative, but would you mind sharing a link to a site that says that any given brand of fuel has different levels of additives from one octane grade to another? I'm honestly curious because I've never heard that before.

What I have seen are many articles and videos that all say that there is no point in buying higher octane fuel -- other than when the engine can perform better with it. The additive package is the same.

If you used 91 instead of 87 over all those miles on your F150 - you would have spent an additional $3,500 or so. What would that have gotten you?

1) Your engine today would get about 10% more horsepower.

2) Would be getting slightly better mpg’s.

3) Your engine would be cleaner & healthier.

Is it worth it? If money is no object - 91 is a no brainer for 1) & 3). But money is an object and can be spent in many ways. I’m old & frugal with a son like you. Running 91 in my EB is one of my few guilty pleasures:)
I run 93 in my Ecoboost.
$4.99 per gallon,
Worth every penny,
But then again I’m in the Appalachian’s
Lots of little climbs, over and over.

My engine deals with 87 just fine.
On 93 it gets to, ā€˜Be all it can be’
Smoother,
Faster, not much,

More responsive, by a bunch. Still feels like it needs a tune up on 93 when in Eco mode.
