I'll support Mabett quality injection molding over U.S. made 3D crap.

Glen, that piece you are showing is a poor candidate for 3D printing, at least if you want some stiffness. They might have been able to beef it up a little but took the easy way out. My son has a printer so I am willing to try printing some things, but for the most part I'd never buy something someone else printed.

This is the Etsy seller.
Not only is it a poor product. He was a poor seller. Never communicated with me that it was going to be delayed. When I started to complain he gave me the BS excuse that he had to go through all his stock and that was the best one.

Ford Maverick Temporary cover/fill for tailgate gap? IMG_20241207_154530

Just last week I Saw 3D printed item on the forum. Everyone was raving about it.
I will say. It served its purpose, but I thought visually it looked terrible. I wouldn't want it in my truck.
Funny because it seems that everybody who has a 3D printer fancies themselves as a designer and manufacturer.
From the limited examples I've seen 3D printing kind of sucks.

One of the tasks I use my current pickup for (and will be doing the same thing with my soon-to-be-built Maverick) is to haul mulch/dirt for outdoor projects around the yard. These are bulk materials that I typically shovel out of the back with the tailgate down. But with the tailgate down, there's a large gap between the bed and the tailgate that tends to get filled with whatever bulk material I'm hauling, especially if I use a scoop shovel or broom to finish getting all of the material out of the bed. I often don't want to remove the tailgate completely (and with the Maverick's electrical connections to the tailgate, is more involved than with my current truck which just is a tip and lift to remove the tailgate completely), so am looking for a temporary rubber-like material that can temporarily bridge the gap and prevent a ton of material from falling down into that gap. I'm picturing some sort of T-shaped semi-rigid gap filler with the top bridging the gap, and something sticking down into the gap to hold it in place.

I suppose I could use something like a pool noodle shoved down into the gap, but wondering what others have done to try and solve this problem?
I used some thin aluminum screwed to 2x4 pieces that fit in the gap. Otherwise I used a leaf blower th clean the gap. Both methods worked well. I was hauling composed horse manure.

As with everything in life, there is the $300 version of the machine, as well as the $3,000 version, and the $30,000 version. And then there is the $10 roll of filament, the $100, and the $1,000 roll of filament. Hell, you can print most of an actual handgun or receiver for a rifle on a 3-D printer and it won't blow your hand or face off. You can 3-D print metal. You can 3-D print conductive material interspersed with non-conductive within a product.

I don't see this crappy Etsy seller as any different than any other manufacturing based products folks sell online. There is a wide spectrum of both base material as well as hardware (in this case the actual 3-D printer). This seller was using crappy everything.

Those of us who don't have a 3D printer can support the criminals at Mabett who copied the member who made his own and buy THIS one.
Why? The Mabett one is junk. Too flexible, subject to warping, and the tangs that hold it in the hole are prone to deformation and permanent damage.

As far as I know, member @P99Guy still offers very well-made, rigid ones for sale, at a fair price.

A printer, and some functional cad software, does indeed make one a designer and manufacturer. You just have to remember that you are making plastic parts, and printing them in layers that are readily discernible on the final product. I have made several wheelchair parts and accessibility aids for my son that I could not otherwise buy, but would not think of printing appearance critical parts for my truck.

Here it is:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6265706

If we hadn’t of just bought a 3D printer a while back, I would have bought from P99guy off this forum instead. I won’t touch a stolen design Mabett product.
No worries! I almost want to post the original files just to dent the sales of the 3 Chinese companies that are selling copies of the original.

i never got into it to make any money. Richard Cranium and I just wanted to resolve an issue for Maverick Owners. It has only ever been available on this forum and just advertised via members here.
