Auto headlights. My 22 automatically dim below 25 mph and go back to high beam at 30-35 mph. So when I slow down say looking for a driveway and need bright lights they automatically dim, or you slow down around a corner and then you can not see as well, really dumb and unsafe. Anyone else find this annoying and unsafe? Never seen a thread on this. Is there a way to change this?
My auto high beams work really well on my 2022 Hybrid. But, as it should be at night, when you are approaching another vehicle they automatically dim. Wide open highway, no incoming traffic, they automatically return on high beam on my "HEADLIGHTS".

First thing I turned off was the auto high beams, useless. If I need them I bump the stalk.

Nope. But this is where I miss having fog lights as they illuminate more to the side (or be like my 2014 Escape which actually had turn lights that illuminated when slow and turning).

In terms of fog lights, I've grown to greatly appreciate having them on my vehicles; they add that extra touch of visibility. And with much of the new headlight styles/technology out there, I find the light patterns are greatly "cut off" or well-defined at the top where you're not getting additional visibility above a certain view line. That's been my experience, your milage may vary.

As for fog lights, when I was researching the trims, I was surprised that the only way to get them would apparently be aftermarket. Only the Lobo trim has them. Just couldn't see spending $$$ on a feature that should be readily installed by myself or as a factory option. To each their own.

Out of curiosity, have you had your charging system checked? Your symptoms vaguely remind me of a vehicle I once had where the alternator was starting to go. Dim lights at idle, brighten when giving the gas. Of course, this was back when we either drove cars or opted to ride dinosaurs. :cwl:

Yeah, the new Mav's lights are like that. Clear terminator line up top between lighted and . They're really a step down from the Escape Titanium's (but I'm finding lots of features that aren't there...hello memory seats? Dimming rear view?) which were brighter and had a "fuzzier" terminator. I'm learning that "A Lariat's a Lariat (except when it's a Maverick)."

I have wondered though if higher end portable inflators have reached that level of accuracy (the first one I tried was off by 2-3 psi), so you can inflate and set the pressure in one step.
My Makita is off by 5 psi, but it is "accurate" as far as being consistent, so I can easily adjust for it. I set it to 30, and it's 35 every time on my jaco.

I always have... I guess my $31,000 tire gauge has failed me!
If you bought your Maverick to be a tire gauge, you will be sadly disappointed.

..Regarding tire pressure changing. Solved most of this problem by buying tires from Costco.
Did you get the free fill air at 78% nitrogen or opt for the addition $$ for the 100% nitrogen fill?

Auto headlights. ...... Is there a way to change this?
yes

You might confirm you've had all the recalls done.
Otherwise I don't think you'll get free software updates if not needed.

Because the 24MY XLT at least - does NOT do that.
I've been below 25 on many a back road and auto-high's are on, corners don't matter at the speed I'm going.

Now, when they do disable is on hills - up angle is less than down angle it seems.
This is around the local park lake I noticed - so it is 20-25 mph.

Made sense when I first noticed.
No need blinding someone coming over the hill top other direction the camera can't see the light from yet.
Or at the bottom of a hill about to start up but camera can't see their light yet - but driver could sure be blinded by mine.

So those make logical sense for auto-mode - system has no idea where the top or bottom of your incline is, and it knows the viewing angle for the camera and where it could see light - so failsafe otherwise.

With that logic - I guess I could see side angle being included in math too - I'll need to test that one.

ETA:
@garyp - you are correct sir!
Was doing my walk at the lake park in the dark again tonight.
Turns out I've been speeding on these dark roads - over 30 mph, which is when the auto-Hi is enabled, and then keeping it above 25 mostly, until I'm almost cresting a hill, then I drop below 25 and auto-Hi is disabled.
So Enabled at 30, disabled dropping below 25.

Because it was rather deserted on this strangely nice 55 F night - I did stay above 25 & 30 doing some of the steep inclines and it did kick the highs off, as well as staying above 30 on some downs - so I'm not sure if incline is still a factor too.
My major take away - these park roads are not the place to be having fun in the Mav with hills & turns by speeding - I need to cut it out, so I'm glad this came up.

I will totally agree on the Owner's Manual. Worst manual I have ever encountered....

Another drivers changed my headlight setting, so looked in the manual to review settings. I've always called them "headlights", but Maverick manual calls then "Light LAMPS". Even used "Google" to find the name of lights on the front of a vehicle"...and Google agrees with me, they are called HEADLIGHTS.

Finally found "Light Lamps" and first topic covered was cause of "condensation" of in Lamps. Lists the "headlight" option setting but takes you into 4 pages of "mombo jumbo" to explain the simple 4 headlight settings, when the driver is looking for a quick, simple, summary answer.

I found this throughout the manual...very confusing instructions and part of the cause is trying to cover the hybrid and turbo version options in the same manual.

Agree on the terrible concept of integrating the turbo & hybrid in same manual. That's cheesy, cheap. Separate manuals would be better. However, not the worse manual ever. I've seen worse, especially those accompanying Chinese products, written by someone who's first language is certainly not English. Nuf said.

Wiith the onset of winter the tire pressure needs to be adjusted. I usually use my trusty tire gauge but I thought I would try the new fangled gaugescon the dash screen.

So I set all four tires to 35 psi. Great. After driving one city block each tire now registers a different pressure... 28 psi to 37 psi.

After sitting overnight they change pressure again..........

Geesh...
The TPMS polls each sensor individually and slowly, it takes minutes to get an updated reading on all four locations. The update time is to slow too use while adjusting tire pressure. Also, the air pressure will vary with temperature. Just because you put in 35psi does not mean it stays there, driving down the road will increase temp and therefore pressure, ambient temp will affect pressure, even sunlight hitting one side and not the other will cause a different pressure.

Use a tire pressure gauge to set your desired pressure. Once you get them really close wait till all tires are the same temp, they are all updated, then you use the reading to fine tune if you want all of them reading the same, using very small adjustments.

I have always set my tire pressure with a quality gauge. I just wanted to test how good that built in pressure deal is… survey sez “not very good”.

Just use your "trusty tire gauge" and eliminate all this mental anguish.

Steve
Some don't realize that the gate on the dash doesn't change instantaneously. An accurate reading only occurs after being driven. So you are right that a person should use a mechanical gauge for accuracy. The sensors usually settle in at a reading that's "close enough". But it's not meant to bec00% accurate.

The lights are operating exactly as designed. Every Ford that I've driven that has Auto dimming headlights operates in the same manner. When you slow down they go to low beam automatically. I think most other vehicles do the same. I believe it's because a lot of people when they slow down in the scenario you are describing, they tend not to dim their lights even if there's oncoming traffic because they are laser focused on trying to find whatever they're looking for. However , it can be easily overridden by manually turning the high beams on if you need the extra vision at the time.
