I'd prefer being a bit overzealous with regulations over not. It's easier to roll back regs that aren't as helpful as initially thought than to undo ecological damage. We haven't heard about the hole in the ozone layer in a long time and that's because we took the problem seriously... but I still hear some greybeards complain about not being able to use R-12 anymore. Personally, I like being able to go outside for 30 minutes without slathering on SPF50.

I am biased because I grew up and lived in Northern California for over 50 years, but there's a reason the lung cancer rates there are among the lowest. Regulation and education. Love it or hate it, this is what self governance is about. You can still smoke. You can still drive insanely impractical but fun vehicles. Eat whatever you want. You just might have to pay and/or be inconvenienced a little more. Remember, slow government is good governance.

Any thoughts out there on The start-stop technology as related to the turbocharger? I realize it's a gas saver and great for the Hybrid, but it would seem that constant engine restarts during stop and go city driving would cause additional stress on the turbos due to rapid changes in temperature which could increase Coking, and reducing pressure (at least momentarily) which in turn lead to brief oil starvation to the turbos. I've had other turbos (not Ford) that benefited from a one or two minute cool down after driving. Abruptly shutting off every time you come to a stop seems like a bad thing for turbocharged engines. Again, any thoughts would be appreciated.
It's actually Turbo not Turbos.

Toyota does a whole bunch of extra things, just like that.

Not read that Ford did on the Mavericks beyond the simple bare requirements to get something to work.
Hence the reason there are so many "outs" for when it won't activate. Temps being a few of them.

Considering the addition of a light in the back seat power port causes enough draw to disable the AS/S from working for a couple of posters that tested it - I'm very much doubting that an actual electrical pump could possibly run and not draw enough disabling it anyway.

Considering the fuse box only lists this - also doubtful. Unless I missed another name for it.

Electric water pump (hybrid electric vehicle).
This video popped up by chance in my youtube where a guy was showing the under side of 2022 awd ecoboost and points out the coolant pump for auto stop start.

Hello, I installed a start/stop elimanator and love it. No more engine shutting off at ever stop. Best of luck

I'd say it's annoying at times, but that's what the disable button is for. As for wear and tear on all components, I believe it's negligible when compared to all the other stresses put on the drivetrain. We demand constantly changing conditions out of our vehicles. The AutoSS is just another function. The turbo will still have nicely heat oil spread throughout and ready to go. If you drove exclusively in Sport mode you'd do far more damage. To everything. As well as driving less than 5 miles per trip. Just food for thought and only an opinion.

“Nicely heated oil” ready to boil away if EB is immediately turned off. Coating turbo bearings & tiny oil passages with carbon.

Using Sport Mode will disable start/stop for good reason. Keep that oil moving during a stop. Keeps the coolant moving too.

I drive Sport Mode almost exclusively. Occasionally I’ll use Lobo Mode:) My Maverick will never be shut off without a proper turbo cooldown period. My Lobo will idle & run the fan high for a minute or so after putting in Park. Only when that shuts down do I turn off engine. I’m assuming all EB models have that cooldown logic?

My battery is never fully charged enough for the feature to operate. If it did I would buy the device to turn it off. No way thousands of extra starts does not affect systems.
Same with me. If I drive 50 or more miles in one stretch start stop works. Just around town nope. If I charge to battery to full it works but after a few days stops again. And that’s with an agm bat.

My experience with different cars with turbos is trouble free in over 40 years of driving. I'm guessing your experience is the exact opposite due to your trepidation with turbos needing to be babied. Or maybe your experience is trouble free like me, and you flogging it on the daily confirms a turbo's resilience.

Maybe we're both victims to confirmation bias. 👍

At least the functionality of Fords actually works ok- We rented a Subaru Ascent and twice got delayed when it refused to auto/re-start when the light turned green - Yowsa

its kind of crazy so many complain about it when on the Maverick it is fully controlled by the way you use your brake pedal - total user control - but some users do not understand that the system is not automatically engaged without the driver engaging it ;)

Cheers

40 years of turbo driving - bless your heart:) Trouble free 40 years to boot.

How many had auto stop/start?

Bless your heart? Oh boy. Anyway, good point with the Stop/Start variable. I just don't believe it has much effect on the turbo's longevity. Let's keep track of our mileage and any issues. Currently at 80k. Zero issues so far with anything. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of us will have transmission issues before anything else.

Yes! It's all about brake pedal pressure. I do that all the time if I don't want it to activate.

I had a 2017 Escape for 10 years & 125,000 miles, never had an issue with using start/stop. This includes heavy city driving in the NC summer with the AC on.

My starter never failed, and I only had to replace the battery after 6 years which is pretty typical.

I think fears of part failures is way over blown.
