I have been seeing a lot of stories in the news about vehicle theft of the push button cars via stealing the code from the fob and using it to steal the car. I have seen that some fobs go into sleep mode when not in motion. My question is does anyone know if Ford uses these fobs and do I need a faraday bag to put my keys into at night? Thanks ahead of time.

Thievery is a real concern in today's world, it seems.

I can't answer your question with any authority, so I won't.

What you can do is make your truck more difficult to take...this way a potential thief will move on to an easier target.

A Faraday box or a bag would be a great idea to begin with.

May I suggest a more visual and audible deterent that is portable?

Mine locks around the steering wheel and one of the yolks...turn your steering wheel one way or the other (preferably NOT into traffic or roadway...truck can only go in circles potentially, with the lock engaged).

Put the lock bar on the steering wheel lock, the bar projects over your dash to prevent driving except in circles with lock bar in place.

You can activate the loud lock bar alarm if you want, or not. It is motion sensitive and tested it myself.. it works.

I hope this helps!

Ford uses a fob that goes to sleep after no movement for 30-45 sec.
For the keyless entry push-button starts models.
Manual mentions that for using the fob buttons even.

So while walking around in the grocery store - yes a signal blocker would be smart.

Hanging in your house - unless the cat is playing with them constantly moving - they stop sending out any signal.

The Club-the original, but only takes one hacksaw cut to flex the steering wheel and it is off...

The Artago take on the original club, but better, and shorter as well, I believe. And it has a motion sensitive alarm. If the truck moves, it can go off.

All are good, as they are visual deterents which encourage local douche-bags to find an easier target that doesn't make noise, or need a hacksaw, or damages their new ride! Can also affect their...ahem...resale value. 😉

Andy

If i had my way, I would have a secret switch that would not allow the theft to occur. But, a visual deterrent is the best as it can stop the damage from a theft before they start. They can see it when said D-B looks in the window.

I have never used a 'Club' but I remember the TV adds.

I looked at getting 'Car Keys Express' through Costco & they could not program a spare FOB with the FOB I had in my pocket. If I had two FOBs with me they could program a 3rd FOB with the Maverick center console.

It's not that the fob is programmed - the truck is.

Transponder is already in the fob / specific key (if you do a non-fob version).

Truck must be programmed to trust that new fob transponder. There are 4, maybe 5 in 25MY, slots.

That trust is confirmed by seeing 2 fobs / key transponders it already knows and trusts.

But because it seems most databases say it can't be done by the owner without Ford's involvement - they won't even make the key. Manual says see dealer.

That's all I wanted originally - none of the easy places that actually did carry the correct key (without transponder even) would do it - because of what the database said. That had humans, the machines just said can't do it.
Finally an auto-shop that did mobile locksmith was found - they cut a transponder key, and a fob key replacement (not the fob). I programmed the truck for the new transponder key. I'll need a pair of pliers to turn the key replacement, but at least something in my wallet to get in the truck for lockout.

I have keyless entry, but not remote start. So, I put my "spare" fob in a Faraday bag and put it under the back seat. If I would lose the fob I'm carrying, I can use the keypad to get in and get the other fob.

A faraday pouch is always a good idea, especially if you lock your fob in the truck. It's an economical, effective, extra layer of security. Just make sure you test your pouch, half the garbage from Amazon does not work.

The most effective deterrent is to have a pet skunk live in the truck!

'Car Keys Express' did cut a standard key for me. I carry it in my wallet to unlock the truck. ($27)

I bought a faraday box and two pouches. I thought I was safe. Today I accidentally pressed the horn button while the fob was in the pouch. The horn sounded. Shouldn't the faraday pouch be blocking that signal??

Good test for a cheap pouch.
Well - perhaps unlock or lock would be better to test.
But indeed.

Could be strength of signal too - does it work for the always broadcast signal for keyless entry, but not button press?
Or both?
Or neither!
