Took a look underneath the maverick and was wondering where do you place the jack to lift the truck for a back / front tire change?
 It does show it in the owners manual offhand. I don’t remember the page number.

Getting the spare down is nothing compared to using the stock wrench to jack up the truck and break the lugs loose. I’ve never seen a more ineffective setup and am considering upgrading. I haven’t figured out what yet but a crow bar or 4 way might be a start. Then a usable jack crank.

Yes, Ford's insane overkill torque spec on the lug nuts can make them hard to break free. I got a 21mm socket and a breaker bar from Harbor Fright and keep them behind the seat with the jack.

Good idea. Also saw a ratcheting jack wrench on amazon I might look at.

Yea . I have 4 way lugwrench and a piece of pipe ( about 2 feet long ) that fits over end of lugwrench for additional leverage . just in case . If that doesn't work I have roadside assistance but I hate to wait . so far no need . I have practice lowered the spare and disengage hanging mechanism .

I found a suitable alternative in the Steelman #96095 Standard 12mm Square Head Spare Tire Tool, available at Amazon. This tool is reasonably well made of welded mild steel but needed a tweak to be perfect for the Maverick. It's made for full-size trucks and is 10" longer than the Maverick requires. It also has a 7/8" hex drive nut, slightly larger than the 21 mm lug nuts on the Maverick. I made two mods, but either would have sufficed on its own. I machined the nut down to a 21 mm hex, and also bent that extra 10" into a hand crank (with a MAPP gas torch). In retrospect, I could have simply cut off the nut since the Maverick's cable winch should never need more torque than the crank could provide. It works very well, and clears the trailer receiver by about an inch and a half.
Murphy's Law should now ensure that if I carry this, I will never, ever get a flat. :fingerscrossed:
Thank you for posting this, I stole your idea,,,,,

Cut 7" off the length, and found a threaded coupling w/a 13/16" hex (same as the lug nuts). Now I can use my impact or a lug wrench to lower/raise the spare. Time to toss it behind the rear seat.

I believe everyone who drives a car should be able to change a tire if needed. I made a dry run under ideal conditions in my driveway and found the experience worthwhile. One of my discoveries was that you can only lower the spare when the tailgate is CLOSED (and preferably no trailer is attached) so don't pick up any nails with a load of 4x8 plywood. 🤬 Another epiphany was that I really don't want to have to dig out Ford's emergency tools from behind the seat when I'm doing routine maintenance and want to lower the spare.

I'm surprised no one has tried mount a small motor in there to lower the spare tire. I would think you could hack something together using parts from an 18v drill and some ingenuity. You could make a "pendant" for the switches, mount the battery in the bed cubby and then you can access the spare with the tailgate down.

🤓 Somebody actually has come up with a device to lower your tire electronically. I saw it on one of those advertisements where they say 25 things you need for your car, but I couldn’t find your information after they showed it.

Can you tell if there's a way to secure the spare tire? With a chain? Where I live some lowlife are stealing the spare tires...

Thanks, but it says item won’t fit.
It's definitely not plug and play. You would have to rig some way to mount it but it's 12v wiring so that's not too hard. It's a DIY solution.
