I have seen a few threads which suggest the potential for soft paint. It seems like most of these reference Cactus Grey to be the most common. I don’t know if this is due to it being a popular and more common color, or is there a “weakness/softness” to the materials/paint process.

Without getting into all the geeky science, is there a Maverick color that seems to be holding up stronger to the elements? Which seems to be weakest?

I think the white and silver one would withstand the most extremes of torture. Just less chemical's or whatever to achieve that color vs all the other colors.

Edit; I’d like to say I have a CG Maverick and I’ve not noticed any paint chips/soft paint issues. Maybe mines sat at the Mexican Desert longer? Got that Xtra curing time.

CarbG, FE hood decal, hood deflector, 2800+ miles with six 450 mi interstate trips, almost 2 months owned and no chips 👍🏻😊 I had ordered CG but bought this one when it became available, no regrets.

Daily Reminder: While forums are fun to learn and see others' opinions, you will come out thinking your Cat will burn up, paint will be soft, seats warped, engine overheat, seals bent and Maverick will only last 5000 miles before it needs to be replaced.

In reality, this is 10-20 people in a world with 100,000 vehicles ordered.

My cat burned because my paint was soft, probably due to the tonneau cover being too short.

but seriously, you have a point. All new cars have issues, and it’s nice to see and answers questions about the Maverick due to it’s strange birth and quirkiness. This forum has answered a few of my questions, and had me worry about a few non-issues, as well.

For me its probably because I've been on forums for every vehicle I've owned and I've come out thinking all were going to explode in 20 min.

Mine is black and I’d say it has soft paint. Way more chips way sooner in ownership than other cars I’ve had. I now carry a paint chip pen to fill them in as they come… not many complaints with the maverick for me but this is one

I don't think ceramic coatings will do much good. Ceramic coatings really only protect the paint from water marks and bird droppings from damaging the surface of the paint. A protective plastic film (PPF) would prevent the paint from chipping due to rocks or road debris.

I think part of it is we're at the tail end of snow season. At least where I live they dump a ton of sand on the roads.

My CX-5 (pearl white metallic) would get a new paint chip in the hood or front fenders every time I looked. A touch up pen helped but it was honestly a losing battle.

For this reason, I ordered my maverick with hood/fender protective film.

This is mostly due to the waterborne paint process the EPA forced all the OEM's to adopt several years ago. It's also applied in thinner coats.

No different for any mfg'r, any color.

Ceramics increase the hardness of the paint and act as a barrier. Many ceramics will only add 2h but some goes as high as 9h. They will add protection.

I'm at 6 chips in my Cyber Orange. I need to touch up the last two still.

After going to a ceramic hybrid wax, my chip rate has slowed down. Seems to be helping. Or maybe I am getting less chips now that Spring has sprung?
