I've never had something like this in a car so I have no baseline to compare against. Initially, I didn't find too much use in it until I ALSO found the adaptive cruise setting to automatically set the cruise to x mph compared to the speed limit. This was a laziness game changer, but also, given I drive on country highways, the fact that it triggers in the random 500 foot long cities that have a 25 mph zone have been clutch.

It was only after I started using this often than I noticed it seems like it does 2 things: 1. It sometimes reads signs incorrectly (VERY rarely) and 2. It seems like it reads phantom signs that don't even exist.

Regarding #2, there's a very specific place I've found that's a 55 and it randomly picks up a phantom 20 mph zone. It's not a school zone, which I've noticed it loves to obey the "if kids are around" law. What would cause this? Is it a misread of something and the AI is just screwed up? Is it somehow pulling it from map data either in the connected maps or android auto? I'm stumped.

So what's everyone else's experience with this been? I'd love to know more and how to avoid some of these quirks, but maybe I just need to be less lazy.

EDIT: I don't mean "AI" in the most recent interpretation of the word. Just meaning recognition and interpretation.

No AI, it's just reading any posted speed limit it sees. It doesn't read the "if kids are on the road" part.

Are you saying that you'll be doing 55 and then the IAC sets the cruise at 20 because it thinks it saw a 20 mph sign ?

Yeah that is exactly what is does.

I HATE this "feature" on my Mach-E and immediately turned it off. I'd be cruising down the interstate at 75mph and this stupid setting would recognize a 45mph off ramp sign and slow the vehicle down without any warning.

I don't know which dumbass junior engineer at Ford thought this system was a good idea but it is horrible.

I have a 24 Lariat. But it does not have intelligent adaptive cruise. I thought I could activate with forscan, no luck.
Had this feature in a bronco sport and liked it.

I played around with this feature a little bit, and wasn't a huge fan. Mostly due to how I drive; I wish the intelligent cruise setting were a % above or below the posted limit instead of raw +/- mph values.

But does it do a combination of actually reading road signs + using navigation data for the speed limit values? I ask because there were times it adjusted the speed (correctly) to the road I was on, but there was no sign in sight.

Yea, I have to imagine it's using map data somehow, and maybe old data is what's causing the mis-reads but it's super maddening when it's that huge of a jump. I'm still enjoying it more than I'm annoyed by it, but it's getting up there in "this ain't freaking worth it" territory.

I've tried the feature when I just got the truck, but had to turn it off pretty quickly. So, it went from "cool" to "ain't freaking worth it" within a few days.

I would think this feature would likely get you rear ended even if it were only picking up relevant speed limit signs.

I have a 2023 Lariat with all options and I had no idea this feature even existed. How is it turned on? I know I'm not going to like it but I'm curious to see it in action.

This feature was introduced to the MY25. MYs 22-24 do not have this option.

Didn't some people mod this into their previous year?
Yes, you are correct. Some have used ForScan to do this. I was only referring to the "official" options offered by Ford.
