The trucks are very much under rated.

This is to cover Ford's ass and get them out of most warranty claims and disputes. 2000 Ibs is not a brick wall or something.

Your truck won't explode, self destruct, smoke or catch fire if you tow more. Within reason.

And there are trade offs.
You can lower your speed and tow more for example. 2000 lbs is the "no compromise" number.

Towing 3000 lbs at 60 mph is completely reasonable. As is pulling 4000 lbs at 50 mph. These trucks are very capable. Just don't be ridiculous and try going uphill at 80 mph while towing 4000 lbs.

Also tongue weight is important. More important with FWD. The more weight you put behind the rear axle, the less weight you will have on your front axle, and you will have a loss of traction.

I have an XLT hybrid that I use to pull my Boston Whaler Montauk 150 (Hull 950lbs, Engine 250lbs Trailer 500lbs, and other 250lbs). Loaded to go fishing it might be just at the 2k limit. I have used dry, wet, and muddy ramps here in Miami/South Florida and never had an issue. Recently sold the boat and I am searching for another boat in the same weight range. Here are some pictures for reference. Be sure to pick your ramps, and be smart about it as with any tow vehicle.

Towed my 86 Bayliner bass boat without a problem but don't have too go far to lake and ramp is not steep. From what I've researched, the boat weighs about 1400 lbs plus the trailer so I'm thinking it's close to limit. Pulled without a problem in normal mode.

So I ended up picking up a 16.5ft fishing boat a couple days ago and wanted to report back about towing it with the hybrid. New specs for the boat listed it about 700-800lbs, so loaded and with the trailer, I'm guessing about 1000lbs. Well within hybrid tow limits. Using the tow mode on my XLT showed about 25mpg over 125 miles. It definitely feels the extra weight but it tows nicely and had no issues. Pulled the boat out of the water on less than ideal ramps with no issues as well. Wouldn't tow across the country with it, but looking forward to exploring some lakes with 100miles or so.

What hp is that Mercury? My son has the 16’ Bass Tracker that needs a new motor, his 2010 30hp Mercury is destroyed. He only drives about 6-7 miles to the lake and river and was questioning if my hybrid is up to it. I thought with trailer and 30 hp dry it was about 2,000 lbs.

This is the 40hp. I don't remember what the paperwork said exactly, but I think trailer was 350-400lbs, boat somewhere between 700-800lbs. But come to think of it, that might not include the engine. so maybe over 1k, but still no issues at all. Hybrid will handle it no problem.

Here is my other 2 boats and trailer. This aluminum Yakima kayak trailer and the 2 kayaks themselves weigh at about 350 pounds. Of course, no problem with weight and I get great gas mileage while towing these bad boys :) The paddles and other equipment is in the bed.
