The trucks are very much under rated.
This is to cover Ford's ass and get them out of most warranty claims and disputes. 2000 Ibs is not a brick wall or something.
Your truck won't explode, self destruct, smoke or catch fire if you tow more. Within reason.
And there are trade offs.
You can lower your speed and tow more for example. 2000 lbs is the "no compromise" number.
Towing 3000 lbs at 60 mph is completely reasonable. As is pulling 4000 lbs at 50 mph. These trucks are very capable. Just don't be ridiculous and try going uphill at 80 mph while towing 4000 lbs.
Also tongue weight is important. More important with FWD. The more weight you put behind the rear axle, the less weight you will have on your front axle, and you will have a loss of traction.
