Thank you for your input. Why is it so very, very random? I never know when it will do it. I am really concerned with the issue when I'm towing.

It feels random for a number of logical but not always apparent reasons.

In order of probable cause:

a. The exact charge of the battery in any instant is random. The lower or higher the battery (still within the "normal" range) the more likely you'll experience this.

b. The exact slope of the road in any instant is random. The steeper the slope the more likely you will experience this. Low or high battery and steep slope, enhanced effect. Double whammy.

c. Less likely but possible, temperatures matter to a small degree. Temperatures of the motors, electronics, and battery will matter some, and will fluctuate and there's no real feedback to you on this, UNLESS you plug-in an ODBII reader. A scan tool to show you all the internal sensors.

I have one.
I highly recommend to anyone towing to also get a data scanner. They cost $40 (bring your own phone) to $250 (screen included). The reassurance everything is ok? Priceless.
