I had a 98 S10 too. So you know what I am taking about concerning the bench seat. Its most likely a saftey issue why you dont see them any more. Four cylinder slow as s..t. but went 250k commuting about 140 mikes a day for a decade or so. I did have ac and cupholders though.

I think some fleet users might find that an attractive option, but as someone else already noted, those back seats are a mighty attractive selling point for more people. Kids, pets, road trips, etc. I have an older single cab Ranger, cannot WAIT to get a Mav with those back seats.
I have zero need for a back seat, but since there is no Regular cab option, crew cab it is. I'd rather have the longer bed. Most of the time I drive solo, or road trips with the wife along.

On Edit, I did delete the rear seat on my Mustang. Bought a nice kit, which saved some weight and gives a cleaner look.

I wouldn't be surprized if in a few years after market or Ford started producing the pannels so you can self install. It's like the Reading bodies, enough interest by the work segment for specialty companies but not enough to retool the production.

As fleet option sure but not for anyone else. Its not like they make it 2d cab out of it.

Just seems sad the days of a regular cab style truck are gone and some of us would like a work style version instead of a people mover.
Just take the backseat out if you don't want it. Seems like a simple solution to a problem only a few people might have. Unbolt and remove, the end.

So I have a 2006 Ford ranger XLT four-wheel drive and the access cab has been great for me instead of a crew cab just a two cab. Does anyone else think if Ford did a rear seat delete with a secure storage toolbox instead of a bench seat people would buy it?
My solution to your question. Since you’re in the minority, my suggestion to you is but the Maverick, remove the seat yourself, and custom build what you need in the back. Problem resolved.

Multiple body configurations means different parts, different lines, which all equals increased costs.

Aftermarket seat delete options is probably the best option, doesn't help with a longer bed option, but that goes back to the configurations comment.

The reason so many old single cabs are still around, is the other configurations were sold too and were probably replaced over the years. But since there was no replacement for single cabs, they had no choice than to maintain them.

I did see a Ford patent for a avalanche-esque midgate. Its supposed to be for unibody trucks. Thats just the Maverick for now maybe Lightning in the future. Myself If I were designing it I would have the whole back bulkhead fold up like a suv hatch. And then have supports that lock in to the bed rails Then you have a partial canopy and a full 8ft bed. All in a compact package.

Just unbolt it and put a cover over the cubby tray and some paneling on the back wall. Shouldn't be that hard.
