It's going to be available in 24 as a 25MY. They don't even have testing units on the road yet

Well, that is certainly one way to pick the worst possible scenario. :):):) Sort of like saying it would be difficult to travel through rural Montana towing a trailer in a Model T in 1908.............

But obviously you are correct. The infrastructure is not there yet for long distance trips. The battery range, especially when towing, is not big enough either.

But for anyone with a daily commute of under 100 miles and a place to plug in at home I think the advantage moves over to the EV. If you could even find one to buy of course.

I think we will need to move away from Lithium battery chemistry before EVs go mainstream. Too expensive, too many issues.

It's not obvious? When someone purports to speak for a group "we all" then counterpoints will surely follow disavowing membership in that group. Only about 25% of Americans would even consider an EV and it's not like we ALL are pining for a Maverick version. YMMV
Yeah but they build more than one powerplant for almost everything they make and will continue to do so for a long time. A ranchero could have had multiple 6 cyl and multiple v8s depending on years. At some point the maverick is likely to have 4 options. Umless you dont want a maverick that should cover the "we". No need to poke a obvious political jab, us old car guys lost 3 decades ago. I think of it this way. Oil is finite, electricity is not, the more EVs there are, the more decades nitro methane tractor pulls rigs will exist. I know they run on synthetic fuels but they still need petroleum based something or other to run. But you get the point.

Personally i think the smartest way to make evs mainstream is to equip them with a backup generator. Or split the power type delivery between axles. FWD gas/RWD Ev. Done. Now WE can all rejoice.

It's not about losing. Both can coexist. EV's and PHEV's are really pretty great, with a big exception for range and charge time shortfalls on EV's. But not having to go to the gas station for weeks or more while you're at home and just driving around the city? It's so fantastic. I'm going to miss that big time once my Maverick gets here. (I daily drive an EV, own a modded old E36, and need a small truck so now I'm getting a Maverick. Friends have 3/4ton's for when I rarely need more.)

By losing, I meant losing the intoxicating feeling of having a vehicle that shakes the ground beneath it, and with a terrible roar takes off as fast as you dare to(whether its the fastest or not). Not even the hellcats compare to what used to be.

EVs have instant torque, and in some cases massive instant torque. Sound, fury and rumble are all great, but nothing replaces that feeling of getting slammed back into the seat and held there... I love ICE vehicles.... I have been both lucky and privileged in my life to own and drive many exceptional cars... To this day I still own both a Corvette and Jaguar that are under 3 seconds 0 to 60. But once I got to spend some with a model S then had a ride a Tesla model S Plaid, I knew without a doubt ICE was going the way of the stagecoach.

So now you are kicking a dead horse. I said that old car guys lost 3 decades ago. We all EVs are faster. That would be a big DUH. However Tesla can and will screw off. Evil company run by a wanna be supervillian who thinks he's a hero.

What my point was is that the sound and fury, the rumble and smell of rich carburetion. The feel of simplicity that you can fix a major life and limb threatening malfunction with a screwdriver. That experience and feeling is in some of our DNA and will forever prefer (atleast in theory) hot sexy american v8 combustion.

I am personally open to all types of propulsion, I have just been explaining peoples motivations and desires for the types of vehicles they are passionate about. I hope they come out with a AWD hybrid model of Maverick. Not for me but for my mother in law, our driveway is a 35-40 degree dirt incline with a 180 degree switchback at the steepest part. 4WD is mandatory here, and she always complains about gas mileage in her cars. I personally could care less about gas mileage. Over half the vehicles I've owned got less than 10mpg and gas is still cheaper than bottled water at the gas station.

Also thanks for bragging about all the expensive and fast cars you own on a forum for the cheapest truck in America.

I find the EV/HEV/gas discussion rather entertaining. Much like the fudd discussion of 1911 vs modern tools.

Any one with some real info have any idea what model year the plug in Hybrid will be offered?

2024 model year or 2025?

Reason being that I love the Hybrid so much that a plug in would be mind blowing option. And if it had AWD then even more fantastic.
Wondering if I offload my Hybrid now as its value is still high and jump on the ordering the plug in when it's available. Just rubbing my two pees together of how long I would be paying more for gas if I made this call now vs waiting.

No such thing has been announced, nor has it been teased by Ford. They're already struggling to build the current lineup of hybrids and plug-in hybrids, so don't count on a Maverick PHEV much less BEV being launched any time soon. 2025 or later seems about right.

Might as well ask for winning lotto numbers too. I know Ford engineers have said a PHEV is in the works but with the success the Mav is having the way it is I can't imagine Ford is making it a priority especially with so much market uncertainty.
