When you really think about it, it could be a lot of things. Are US roads more neglected now and deteriorating, creating more debris on roads? Is road repair and construction more prevalent? Is booming house construction and general development putting more gravel-laden trucks on the roads in condensed areas? Are truckers more lax about covering loads (since it seems everyone is cost-cutting and in a rush these days)? Are trucks being overloaded to maximize profits? Is traffic just denser and we're closer to other vehicles that toss up stones? Do today's cars/SUVS with larger tires kick up more debris than cars of 10-20 years ago? Could be a little of all of that, or none of it, or just plain bad luck.

I wonder if the escape and bronco sport, which presumably share the same glass and angle, are having increased chip damage rates? Hmm.

Put the plastic deflector on the front of the hood. It creates an updraft at speed which will help divert and possibly slow some rocks. It will also work wonders from sand pitting the windshield. Come to think of it my CR-V is ten years old, and I have not checked my windshield for pitting. Clean windshield inside and out and drive into when it's about 20-25 degrees above horizon. If you have glittering which impairs vision your comprehensive should replace your damaged windshield. When I lived in windy Texas panhandle a windshield would last about 7 years depending.....
Unfortunately, they discontinued the only one that has a lip on it to deflect rocks/bugs.
If you can still find one the part number is VNZ6Z-16C900-C . The newer model has no lip and is part number VNZ6Z-16C900-A.

I had a rock crack my Windshield 12 days after buying it. I found VNZ6Z-16C900-C at my local dealer, and had the Windshield replaced by Safelite. Had one similar on my Sporttrac for 15 years and never had a rock chip.

My father-in-law got his Maverick last week and has already had a chip in his windshield repaired. I've had mine for 3 weeks; so far, so good.

It could be affected by how closely you follow the people in front of you too. BUT if you haven't changed your driving habits from vehicle to vehicle, getting a couple of cracks in a short time does seem suspect.

Had this deflector on shortly after receiving truck in December. 10,000 miles later windshield in perfect condition. No hood shake, thanks to simple fix. Could not be happier plus love the look on the truck.

The maverick does sit lower than, virtually all trucks....I have over 12k miles, and no issues with glass/chips. Course I do not tailgate trucks, cars, etc and when I see a truck hauling or a trailer hauling, I swiftly move past or stay far enough behind.

Already had to replace my windshield at 2,500 miles. No obvious rock chip that caused the three foot crack that appeared either. Have the Lariat with acoustic glass. Replaced with same. Hopefully this on is more durable, but I am still perplexed over the entire thing.

There are a couple of threads regarding windshield stress cracks due to no fault of the owner that were covered under warranty. You might have a look at those...here's one:

I got mine covered under warranty. The dealer I took delivery from and made an appointment with refused to even look at it and said Ford would never cover it. I went to a different dealer and they submitted the claim and I got it repaired. Just hoping it was a one time thing.

In my 36 years of driving, I have had only a few rock chips on my windshield. I’ve had my Maverick now for 3 months and I’ve had 2 rock chips on my windshield.
Just curious if it’s just me or maybe the glass is softer than others. I just find it odd that I’ve had two in the last three months as opposed to 3 in other vehicles over the last 36 years.
Looks like you were due. Like an earthquake

We woke today to a horizontal crack on the driver's side, just at eye height. Turns out there's a small rock crater at the very edge of the windshield. Dang. Immediately made an appointment with Safelite Auto Glass, but can't get in until September 9th. THEN we got a follow up email telling us that supply issues may delay the arrival of our windshield, but they'll update us as needed.

Has anyone had a long delay in getting a new windshield for their Maverick? I too am wondering about the soft glass possibility. Hoping the new windshield is good.

I think it is likely hard rocks rather than soft glass that is the issue here.

Great time to ask for an upgrade to the Acoustic windshield -
