A few legitimate gripes with a final score that aligns with most reviews that are already out there. What's the problem here?
They can't be bothered to actually read the review, understand the scale, or consider why someone who probably drives 20+ vehicles a year might have a slightly different perspective than people who buy maybe a vehicle every 10 years, ride in maybe another 5 more in that time period, and thus don't have the same frame of reference.

I find the interior durable and trucky. It is a truck.
Durable is the last word I would use to describe the interior. It scratches easily because it's soft and cheap. Massive, massive miss, especially as you start moving up the trims.

Seems like an oxymoron to print Built Ford Tough on the side of the dash and put soft interior plastic that's already seen a massive beating compared to my 2002 Accord with 190k on the dash.

As for the Edmonds review, there is nothing that I disagree with in the cons list.

Moderators, if this thread is redundant, feel free to delete it, or append it to another.
But, as I wait the last couple of weeks for my Maverick to show up, I thought I would take a peek at Edmunds, a source of review info I have always respected in the past.
I still respect them, but after looking up the Maverick reviews in Edmunds, I found it hilarious the disconnect between Edmunds' reviews and consumers' own reviews.
Edmunds' reviews were not very enthusiastic. "Rides like a truck"... "Interior has a low buck feel to it", etc. I guess I kinda expected that, since it's not a Honda or a Toyota. (And lately, Edmunds' reviewers seemed to love Hyundai, too!) Their overall rating was 7.3 out of 10.0, including an ignorant 7.5 out of 10 for "Is it a good value?"
But compare that to the unbelievable ratings by actual consumers! 92% gave it five stars! The written reviews by owners of Mavericks exude love and pride and basically, they can't believe what a great vehicle they have been blessed with at such a low price.
So if, like me, you need something to help pass your time on a Sunday morning, check it out: https://www.edmunds.com/ford/maverick/

Have you all seen this same kind of thing?

By the way, I didn't even bother to check Consumers Reports, which I swear is a Japanese company! (Just kidding.)
I have had mine for 3 weeks I absolutely love everything about it. 46.4 MPG very comfortable quiet ride smooth on the road and a killer radio not one thing I don’t love about it

Why do you say it is low budget? I find the interior durable and trucky. It is a truck. You are gonna get dings and scratches. My girlfriend spilled some Pepsi on the seat a week after I got it and started to cry......my response was, " it is a truck, nothing more. Shit gonna happen." Got some scratches on the inside door panels...so what. I am averaging over 50 mpg to work and back....that's what I care about. You can't keep a new car perfect if you use it.

Everything is viewed through a lens of bias, prior experience and preferences. Reviewers in general seem to cater to the luxury, gadget, “big budget” crowd. So something like the Maverick for most is viewed from this lens - i.e. compare it to loaded Tacoma 4x4, or a Lariat F150, etc. They don’t do this explicitly - but it is implicit in almost all the discussions. Just look what they are usually sent for review - the top of the line models.

Maverick especially breaks that model a bit given the good value (not “cheap” but less expensive) it delivers. In my business (technology) I pushed back agains prod dev of just “features” that really did little to delight or provide utility -yet marketing wanted them and more just to say “new”. The Maverick provides both utility and delight in a new package.

For my part, I came from a 2017 Black Edition Honda Ridgeline, 2004 F150 Lariat 4x4 before that one. The Maverick is a bit more utilitarian - which I like, and the XLT I own has plenty of the Luxury features my wife and I care about. The capability is effectively as good and/or better than both in some areas (all 3 can carry roughly 1500 lbs). The interior is quiet enough for us, the radio works good enough for our tastes, we only use apple play which has been seamless, etc.

The only points of concern I have - for now - is the paint (thin) and the blue textured interior…that interior may discolor and need to figure how best to clean … the texture being the likely issue. So for us this a comfortable, quality truck with plenty of luxury (moonroof! heated seats! Etc). But ours is perspective informed by our needs and past experiences. YMMV

One of the big problems of these reviewers is context.

When your job driving every vehicle available including the $100,000 versions, it's inevitable that you compare it to them. Reviewers of all kinds struggle to "rebalance" their perspective when they are reviewing most things.
There is a local restaurant reviewer who will give 5 start to a pizza joint if it's a really great pizza joint. Reviews need context; nobody is going to seriously compare a maverick to a superduty.

Last time I checked there was no automotive degree required to hang your shingle out on the Web as an expert automotive reviewer. If you're a real car guy or girl, you know what the quality sites are. And even those reviewers are often self-anointed and highly biased towards sports cars.

This is a knife that cuts both ways. I don't mean to offend any Maverick fanboys or fangirls here (I've ordered a Maverick too), but there are tons of gushy sweet Maverick reviews on this site and out there in the world that just don't hold water. A lot of them are clearly written in the grip of that initial infatuation.

One of the most honest review titles I've seen to date was from Savage Geese, and it was titled "Everything is Forgiven at $20,000".

One of the Edmunds reviewers mentions that they are disappointed that their XL with copilot 360 does NOT have pre-collision braking, i.e. their truck doesn’t automatically apply the brakes in the event of a collision.

Is this correct? My understanding was that this is absolutely a feature of copilot 360.

From my understanding all Mavericks have pre-collision breaking even without 360.

The one thing I’ve noticed with a lot of these “expert” reviews is that they fail to see the value proposition because their perspective is skewed towards higher-trim models on everything. They get to drive around 45,000 dollar versions of cars that sticker for 26,000 bucks for the base model, so that’s their point of reference… Somehow, the features on the 45k vehicle become the expectation for other vehicles starting at 26k, so when they actually are handed the keys to a vehicle that actually costs 26k, it looks and feels “cheap.”

Of course, my argument is that the Maverick actually makes *more* sense the cheaper you go. Hence why I got an XL EB FWD.

A lot of these reviewers are used to driving and comparing $70,000 trucks or exotics. When was the last time there was a base of anything to review. Plus some reviews are paid by manufacturers. I think it's pretty much like anything else. Where are you have to sift sift sift take the bits and pieces for what they are and ultimately make your own opinion. The one thing common in a lot of these reviews is they're really not reviewing it or comparing at its price point. That goes for the Hyundai truck. Simply everything else is overpriced so it certainly should feel great and that's what they compare.

IMO, a big part of the problem is there is no other compact truck to benchmark the Maverick against- it IS the benchmark. Being a leader is tough...
