  1. Debating maverick haters is exhausting

I’ve only ever gotten “dude, how do you like that maverick? I’m thinking about ordering one” comments from others. That said, I don’t even think it’s a real “truck.” It’s a Ute… that’s been crossed over with a crossover. All the benefits of the above categories with very few of the drawbacks. ;)
  2. MINI-TRUCK? I don't think so

The Maverick is actually a crossover between a, well, crossover, and a ute. Not the first time this has been done - the Honda Ridgeline did it first - but it’s the first one along with the Santa Cruz actually competing in the crossover space, where Honda wanted to compete in the mid-size pickup...
  3. The stock audio system is great, actually. Here's why.

This is an outstanding analysis, thanks for this. Headroom is definitely the biggest issue for the Mav’s base system. It’s definitely a cheap system that can be massively improved, but the overall DSP and tuning is largely good. Tuning has a lot to do with it - systems like my wife’s Bose in her...
  4. Consumer Reports Says These Cars Are Currently The Wost Deals, Tom Disagrees

I’m sure it’s just a typo, but analyzing the value of a deal based solely on premium over MSRP ignores a lot of factors. For instance, I’d pay 4 grand over for a Maverick before I’d pay 4 grand under for a Jeep Compass. There are reasons the markups are so high.
  5. Ford Customer Svc rep says don’t believe what you read on this website.

Wait, you got mad at a customer service rep for telling you not to believe everything you read on the internet? I hope you didn’t wire your deposit to a prince in Nigeria.
  6. The stock audio system is great, actually. Here's why.

Another point of clarification: that’s not my “audiophile reference system.” I use Grado headphones amped through my PreSonus audio interface for any serious listening. My point is that the Vizio 5.1 does a really great V-shaped sound that works in the context of a quiet living room and is...
  7. The stock audio system is great, actually. Here's why.

I guess at this point I should further clarify that it’s the sound profile of the stock Mav system that’s actually quite good. I do genuinely believe that the sound quality could improve immensely with some quality speakers. Most “premium” car audio systems go for a very mid-scooped sound that...
  8. The stock audio system is great, actually. Here's why.

I hear a lot on these forums and reviews about the Maverick's stock 6-speaker sound system - rarely is any of it positive. So as a guy who is something of a frugal audiophile, I'm going to give some of my thoughts on the Mav's sound system. A few caveats: 1. I never use Bluetooth. I'm not sure...
  9. DIY Cabover Camper

Super cool! And not much more expensive than a simple tent, either. The DIY innovations of this community never ceases to amaze me.
  10. DIY Bed Extender

This looks way better and more functional than the folding bed extenders on the aftermarket! Excellent work! I kinda thought about doing something similar with the “flexbed” slots and the D-rings and a few 2x4sand a can of spray-on bedliner one day. Of course, the idea is never the hard part -...
  11. Added a Shift Lever

I have no idea why anyone would do this, except solely to say they did. And for that reason, I friggin’ love it! True story - I once put one of these in my 1991 Acura Integra with a manual - my first car. One on hand, the added weight did a lot of favors for that shifter. On the other… it...
  12. What do YOU think the 2025 Maverick facelift will look like?

I predict a mid-cycle refresh with a larger infotainment screen on Lariats, another 1,500 dollar price hike, and very little else changed. I’ve always thought the Maverick made more sense the less you optioned it, hence why I got an XL EB with only two options, although I know many here would...
  13. Factory Continental bad tires. Need replacement at 15K miles

I’ve got 23.5k on my Continentals and I’m thinking I can get close to 30k out of them (or at least through the holidays). They’re fine, but I’m definitely going to get something different. Leaning towards a set of Goodyear wranglers (for the truckier look), although if I was being totally...
  14. My baby has some character now :(

Congratulations! You now have a truck! ;) That first ding hurts the most, but now you’re all set to live that truck life to the fullest!
  15. Tire dents/indentions on brand new Maverick

I believe all of the Continental ProContact tires are like this; the “dents” are seams from the manufacturing process. They should be totally fine. I have 23.5k miles on them and counting. Here’s a page from the Continental website explaining...
  16. Sold my XLT to Carvana

I’ve not sold one to Carvana, but I’ve bought one. By far the best car-buying experience I had. 2010 Mazda CX-9 Touring - bought it for almost a thousand under KBB, arrived in like-new condition. It actually developed a climate control thermostat issue within two weeks and, one very pleasant...
  17. Sold my XLT to Carvana

My plan was to keep my XL EB forever, but now I’m actually considering trading mine, since even with 23,500 miles I’m looking at getting out more than what I put into it. I’m not sure about it though, I love the Mav :)
  18. 38,000 mile summary. BEWARE: ISSUES GALORE!

Wow, OP, that’s a lot of issues. Sorry you’ve had such a rough time with your XL Hybrid. I’m hoping my XL EB will last a good long while, although I did have the master driver window switch flake out and leave the rear passenger window stuck down. Ford fixed it - but it took a month for the...
  19. My one year and 21k miles later review

Great, simple review! As much as I love the power in my 27-30mpg EB XL, sometimes i see those mid-upper 40mpg Hybrid numbers and get a little jealous, lol My commute is almost identical in length and I don’t miss it. There’s not much opportunity on mine to use it anyway. I’ve done a couple of...
  20. How long do you plan to keep your Maverick?

I’m planning to pay my XL EB off over the next year, hopefully before the 35k mile mark. Then, I’ll drive it until the wheels fall off!
