Today was embargo day. The Web is full of 2025 Maverick reviews. Like all OEMS, Ford lets journalists test the new Maverick for several weeks, but they cannot publish till embargo day - so nobody gets an advantage for the story. Search for Maverick test drive with a filter of 24 hours. from 4/8/25, and you'll see more than you can possibly digest.

One thing I found interesting in one article was a comment on price. They said the cheapest Maverick you can buy has gone up 30% since release (I didn't fact check that). I do know, from the BLS inflation calculator, that inflation 2022-2025 is 9%. So that's quite a disparity. Hey, what the market will bear. But it makes me wonder if Ford is creating a market space for an even smaller truck from a competitor. Or maybe even from Ford itself?

I always hate it when a manufacturer Cherry picks one of their vehicles to lend out for reviews. I think it would be a little bit more genuine and honest, if the vehicles had to be bought anonymously off of a dealer's lot. Tested for weeks or months, not hours or days.
That would be a better example of what's being sold to the public.
It would be nice if manufacturers would be prohibited from advertising in the publication.

Like that would ever happen.

Actually, if you listen to some experienced and honest reviewers, they'll tell you that the journalist fleet can be a mixed bag. Often they're preproduction with lots of squeaks and rattles. They tend to get used hard. They do tend to be loaded, upper trim models. But a lot of times the OEM will have a little event for journalists where they provide multiple trims for evaluation. This especially happens at launch events, which can cycle in hundreds of journalists over a week or more.

BTW, "journalists" is generous. There are bloggers, tech sites, people who don't know how to row gears, etc reviewing cars these days. Any "influencer" with an audience gets invited. They get wined and dined, free accommodations, and an hours-long presentation full of Jedi Mind Tricks. So exercise some skepticism.

My main nitpick with online reviews of the Maverick. They ALWAYS gloss over the poor quality of the Maverick and the countless recalls. That's probably because they want to be invited to the next event.

Remember the Chevy LUV, Datsun 620, Ford Courier, Subaru Brat, and Plymouth Arrow? The coolest kids—the ones who didn’t have Mustangs or Camaros—had one of those with a CB radio whip antenna strapped down from the rear bumper to the rain gutter on the cab.
LOL my dad (born '56) had a 2nd gen Bronco and replaced it with a FJ land cruiser, and both had CB radios with at least a 6' antenna that was pulled forward and fastened to the rain gutter. I haven't seen anyone refer to that in *years*.

.. But anyway, yes, the review was relatively good. I agree about the Lobo - especially the 402A version is a great value, considering what 2025 Mavericks cost.

Alex On Autos today reviews the 2025 AWD hybrid. He touches on whether it's a small or midsize, and the cost. He takes a pretty middle road on that. One of dozens of reviews out today.
