Remote Start - Permanent or "Subscription-Based"???

Seeing news lately about auto manufacturers selling vehicles with remote start and buyers are finding out too late that the mfg. only allows that feature for a 'trial period', after which the poor buyer has to pay an annual fee to keep the feature they thought they paid for when they purchased the vehicle active. Does anyone around here know if this is something that applies to the Maverick? I know it's a feature in the Lariat Luxury package but wanted to verify if it was permanent or a recurring source of revenue for FOMOCO.

My old Jeep Renegade was that way (2016). The remote start/lock features required a subscription to use them via the mobile app. As long as the fob remote start works though, I am good.

From what i understand the key fob start is just RF so no subscription needed.

Using the app (and included remote start) is free but having the truck connected to the internet for the app to work is on a Trial-to-subscription. After one year you have to get a data plan with AT&T if you want to continue to use it.

Service for 2020 and later model year vehicles includes a complimentary 1-year trial for remote features, excluding Wi-Fi hotspot, and starts with original vehicle sales date (after which, fees may apply). Connected service and related feature functionality is subject to compatible AT&T network availability.

Not a big fan of 'all things connected to the internet' to begin with. As long as the RF remote works for the remote start feature I'm good.

You are being too polite about it. It's TOYOTA doing this. And backtracking to the 2018 model year to start this key fob remote start subscription BS

I am sure that all the people that bought Toyotas over the last 4 years thought the same. But now they are trying to pull this stunt not for an app based remote start, but for the key fob in your pocket.

The data plan from AT&T is for the onboard WiFi modem. The trial is good for 3 months or 3gb of data whichever occurs first. Since the Maverick will use the modem to communicate with Ford to transfer data for updates about information the vehicle operation, you will use up that 3gb of data the first day that you have the vehicle unless you turn that option off and only do updates using another WiFi/Bluetooth connection instead of the onboard modem.

Absolutely Wrong and Incorrect! Read your manual AND look at the settings within the Sync screen and it will tell you right in it that without it some things will be UNAVAILABLE and updates would then have to be done using another WiFi method. You need to check what changes have been made to newer Ford systems BEFORE giving out incorrect information!

Ok. My Ecosport, 202 SE. Works through the Ford app. Never had a fee. The only time I paid was when I called AT&T to use the onboard modem. Was taking a trip and the ones that went with used the modem.

i canceled the internet service. Still have access to the remote start.

just call Ford help line. They should be able to clarify any questions.

Still waiting on my Maverick to have a build date. Hybrid. Lariat Edition all bells and whistles.
Maybe next year. I hope
