This just happened to me last week. My Maverick just went dead, no warning. We were stuck in a cemetery in 97 degree heat, with no a/c or water. The Ford roadside, said they sent a tow, 2 hours later, they sent another tow, 2 hours later, somebody FINALLY showed up, but it was just a van to jump us. It started and we headed home. ON the way home, it died completely, turning at a light in the middle of two major highways intersecting. You can't put it in neutral with no power!! I managed to get it to coast into a turn lane but it was getting dark, no hazard lights work or anything. A cop showed up, ford roadside, told me 2 hours to get a tow, cop jumped it and I got it into a parking lot before it died again. After 2 hours, still no tow, I called my son to follow us home and he jumped us every time it died. Once home, it died and would not start. After fighting with roadside again, waiting for a tow for 8 hours, they finally took it to the dealer. Whom said I had to wait for them to finish their appt before they would diagnose the truck. I had looked on here and suggested it was probably wiring harness.. Tried to get a loaner and they said no until they diagnose truck, then the machine they use to diagnose truck was "down". Long story short (too late huh?) Truck broke down on Saturday, I finally, got a loaner on Tuesday. They diagnosed the wiring harness!! Part on back order, sometime in July it should come in.. But I agree it should be a recall. Had we been on a road with less traffic or away from any businesses, with no hazard lights, it could have been a accident waiting to happen!!

PS>. I have less than 3,000 miles on my truck.
thanks for sharing your story.. may i ask how you did most of the jumpstarts ? Did you jump started from underneath the rear seat or at the designated pole under the hood? My understanding was that the car could still be running aslong you don't turn of the vehicle..

and what if you were 1000 miles away from home? can the vehicle drop dead just like that at 65mph or at the traffic light / at the gas station? Lol

worst thing would be to stall dead on a bridge or in a tunnel

i have a small battery jumpstart and s couple of clamps.. but i suppose you didn't try to clamp the joint when that happened..

anyway, let me know how you jumpstarted it? Cuz i have tons of stuff on the rear seats that i have to remove to access the battery underneath in case that happen

Scary and dangerous.. Only a matter of time until this issue hurts someone. Ford needs to identify and recall the effected ones…

Error, people have been jumping them from either end. Which ever is easier to access. I would suggest that people should familiarize themselves with where the jumper locations are and how to perform a jump start.

I know i would familiarize myself on which cable to pull on as well. This guy could have saved himself alot of heart ache by tugging on the cable. You could get a better connection just by pulling the cable sideways but not off. In order to get a better connection.

I ran into this problem a week ago. We drove from Arlington TX to Orlando with a night in Pensacola. The initial symptoms were power after turning off the engine. Stopped at a Ford dealer and they checked and said there was 12 volts at the battery in the cab and 3 volts in the engine area. Next day, halfway to Orlando everything went dark. I was able to steer the car onto the shoulder and stopped the car. I had bought a jump box in Pensacola and used that to start the engine. No issues the rest of the way and had no issues after that. Took the car to Tropical Ford. Explained the symptoms and one of the advisors asked how many miles (had over 7000). They told us this was the third one they had seen in the last 30 days. Their hybrid fixed it the next day and no issues since then. It is the crimp/solder mentioned in this string. Tropical Ford has been communicating with Ford about a recall. - Keith

Could you share the dealer's report/ write-up on the fix? ... Thanks.

I'm consolidating as many dealer fix reports/ write-ups on what they did to fix the problem on this thread:

Thanks for the correction. The diagram I used was given to me by a viewer that had their Maverick fixed by a dealer. They must have used an Escape part instead of a Maverick part. Probably because they could find an Escape part and didn't want to wait on the Maverick cable.
Tim, any insight from any of your contacts at Ford about this ongoing and evolving issue? I've read 3 new instances of it on social media just today. @fordvideoguy

No issues at this point. Love my truck. I did get a jump start battery to throw in the glove box, though. I hope I never need to use it, but better to have and not need than need and not have.
Ordered my White Lariat Lux Hybrid June 8th and delivered Jan 8th. I work from home and only have 3,500 miles. This past weekend I went to pick up my brother for a ball game. Went into his house for a bit, came out and the Maverick was a brick. No power. Tried jumping and no luck. Called Ford who sent a tow. The first tow tried to jump it and was able to determine the 12V was fully charged. Couldn't get the vehicle into neutral with no power. Called a second tow with a dolly. The second tow again tried to jump the 12V, pulled off the leads and put them back on. No luck. Vehicle finally towed after about four hours. This was on Friday evening, service was closed over the weekend. Got a call from the Dealership this morning (Monday) asking what was wrong with the vehicle since everything seemed to be working! Explained the issue and it will be a day or two before the tech gets to it. They are going to check everything. Soooo, although I will have start battery as well, it would not done any good in my case.

Did they jump from the 12v battery in the cab or the jump points under the hood? If they used the battery it might not work because the connection is faulty under the hood???

I was going to order a hybrid in August. I decided not to.

Between the interior trim pieces that scratch easy(would drive me crazy) and dead hybrid Mavericks found on this forum, it reiterated to me=FORD=Found On Road Dead.

Regardless of the reason for the problem, I need a reliable car…

From Owner's Manual - Pages 186/187:
USING "MANUAL PARK RELEASE"
Activating the manual Park Release Cable

  1. Apply the Parking Brake. See Electric Parking Brake (Page 194). NOTE: If the battery is dead, for example, no electrical power available, you could need an external power source to apply the parking brake.
  2. Remove the access cover with a tool or key by prying the panel in the upper corner.
  3. Locate the manual park release tether in the center console.
  4. Switch the ignition on but do not start your vehicle. NOTE: do not activate the manual park release with the engine started.
  5. Once in the drivers seat, fully apply the brake pedal and hold. Do not release. Pull the tether strap rearward until engaged. If done correctly, a message appears in the instrument cluster. NOTE: There is an audible click when you pull the tether back in the locked position.
  6. With your foot still fully applied on the brake pedal, disengage the parking brake. See Electric Parking Brake (Page 194). ---> **NOTE: Your vehicle is now out of the "Park" (P) position and is free to roll** <---
  7. Your vehicle remains in "Neutral" (N) for emergency towing purposes.

I still recomend owners to familiarize them selves with a jump start, to understand where the components are and the techniques required. I wouldnt stop there, but would familiarize yourself which cable it is, and give it a good shove into the terminal, this should change contact points and probably get you going+you just diagnosed your problem.

For what its worth..

Nothing but crickets but we haven't seen any dead batteries at our dealership with over 30 Mavericks in our city.
