It's funny, for me I couldn't care less about the towing capabilties, what bothers me is the length of the bed. I find a 4.5 foot bed doesn't really have much room, especially if you made the mistake I did which was to get the tonnoe cover
I guess most midsize truck base level options are a bed that is only 5 to 6 inches longer. But then they often have 6’ bed options, or sometimes 8’. What do you usually pack in your truck(s)?

You wouldn’t. Pay attention. We’re talking the AWD FX4 rating

This question may be getting in some more weeds, but is it correct that eb mavericks are FWD normally, and power is only supplied to the rear when the system detects a need for it? Does tow mode/detection go ahead and kick in awd?

Ford is very vague in the reasoning. Basically they say it’s to simplify the line up. I suspect possibly slippage and increased traction and weight and probably mostly $$$ for the upgrade.

i bought the AWD for myself but had planned to purchase 6 of the FWD with 4K for my business. Had I ordered them right away I would have got AWD free.

My Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid has a tow rating of 0 and all the other gas Cayennes are 7,500 lbs. I believe this is because the battery is in the truck floor, and the worry was the trailer would push forward and puncture the battery in a crash.

I am not surprised the tow rating is only 2k for the hybrid FWD. The Ecoboost AWD could have easily been higher than 2k base, but for the relatively low price to move to 4K they just left it alone. Remember this truck has a low entry price and everything is carefully marketed to upcharge to the customer. Case in point: I had to get adaptive cruise, lane centring, bed liner, bet outlet, parking sensors, B&O sound system etc. etc. just to get heated seats in my Lariat!

Maybe I need to go with Hyundai Santa Cruz with at least 3500lb

I don't tow, so I don't mind the 2k. It's comically low on the AWD and I suspect they kept the certification that low to upsell the tow package.

After installing an after market hitch AND an aftermarket brake controller, and buying a trailer with brakes. 1650 lbs rating with just the hitch.

Would you really want to do that, though? Towing a 2000lb trailer with a 2000lb car on skinny tires with a small 4 cylinder engine seems terrifying.

this is it exactly.

There should be a 3k for AWD especially w/the FX4. Notice how the Hyundai doesn’t have a brake controller in any of their packages and yet manages to have a higher rating than the 4k

it’s about the upsell

Yes, yes please do yourself and everyone a nice favor and acquire a Santa Cruz. They are cool and should be great, at least until the turbo decides to take a crap, or just as sure to happen will be the direct fuel injectors requiring costly removal and replacement. Please post on here how many months owned, miles on the odometer and the costs associated with the failure(s).

Ask me how I know. 😉😥

and you know it's under $2.00 how exactly? Probably more like $80.00 per from their approved vendors. Just another reason cheapasses on here get exactly what they deserve for trying to save $100 on the hitch option that also includes WELDED on hitch instead of bolted aftermarket like U-haul. The $100 hitch option IS THE harness solution and a no-brainer. The only thing reflecting badly is what you see in the mirror for coming on here bitching about non-issues like this :ROFLMAO:

I have to agree about the value of the $100 hitch. I ordered that even though I'll probably never tow more than a minor amount, if at all...
