Wondered about this. Many small crossovers beat it. Even a 2dr Wrangler believe is 2.5K. RAV4 etc.

4K is decent. But base should have been near 3 at least.

On the flip side the 4K is a really well thought out package with the coolers, lower gearing and integrated brake controller. You really should be using brakes when towing with light vehicles like this.

And it's cheap for what you get. It's really a no brainer. If anyone without a Hybrid should ever tow, the 4KT package is worth it.

Really wish the had gotten the rating to 5k or even 4.5k.

It's enough for my needs, which include pulling a small sailboat.

The thing is, the Maverick can't have EVERYTHING that EVERYONE wants, and still remain inexpensive. For those who need it, upgrading to 4K towing is a decent deal. For those of us who don't need it, we don't want to pay for it. Everyone's happy?

Just seems off that so many vehicle including cars beat it base. The Kia Soul is not marketed as a truck

I’m good with 4K but a used no package should get you 3k at least imo.

This probably has more to do with engine size and Ford being conservative with the numbers than anything else. Perhaps a larger engine in the future will significantly boost both tow and now tow package vehicles.

Kia Soul can tow up to 2k

Would you really want to do that, though? Towing a 2000lb trailer with a 2000lb car on skinny tires with a small 4 cylinder engine seems terrifying.

Yet it's 2k tow capability is well advertised and no surprise to buyers. Those that don't need it get to avoid the cost. those that want more can get the option.
It's not the only small crossover that can tow 2k or more. Jeep Renegade, Nissan Juke, and a few others can do it. It's just the only one that advertises it.

Also, the Kia Soul has the same MSRP as a Maverick. Same cost bracket, same tow cap.

This. The factory brake controller alone is worth it- you're not going to find one of those in a Kia Soul or even a Santa Cruz. And when you add in the cost of the trans cooler and swapping the diff gears, it's a steal.

The Bronco 2dr is 3.5k.
the Mav as a “truck” should be nearer that in base form.

Yes the integrated controller is nice on the 4K but aftermarket are super easy and relatively cheap to add. I do like the coolers and gearing on the 4K and it will be perfect for my tow needs.

still surprised how low it is at base trim though considering the “truck”label

My current hybrid vehicle has a tow limit of 800 pounds. Seriously, if I were to be wanting to tow more than 4000 pounds then I would be in the market for a nice new Ford Ranger or large F series trucks.

IMHO the Maverick hybrid being able to tow 2000 pounds is really good. 😉

The less wire splicing that happens, the better. Or am I the only one who remembers cars routinely getting radio shorts- or fires- because some numbskull at the installer tapped into the wrong wire?
