Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some photos of my 2-year-old factory Pirelli tires on my 2022 Eco Mav. I'm noticing significant sidewall deterioration, which seems unusual for a tire of this age. While I’ve put nearly 30,000 miles on them, the tread still appears to be in good condition—though I haven't measured it precisely since I don’t have the right tool.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with these tires? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Do you garage your Mav? That looks like it could be UV damage.

those cracks etc looks sorta like dry rot to me. Any extreme weather environment or harsh chemicals?

I say the same. Dry rot or drove with low pressure.

Those would never pass inspection up here in the People's Republic of Vermont. Talk to the dealer. They will prolly tell you to pound sand but no harm in trying. You are only 2 years in on the 6 year expiration date so there should be some recompense.

I actually like the tires, but with only 4K on them I am not exactly stressing them.

Your tires are only 124 weeks old (2 years and 5 months). They shouldn’t have any aging related damage yet. What this looks like to me is sidewall damage due to under-inflation. The way to confirm is check the inside of the tire:

if there is no damage on the inside, then it could be a manufacturing defect, atypical chemical exposure, exposure to UV curing lamps, etc. Either way, it needs to be replaced because it is at risk of catastrophic failure.

Major culprits have already been identified.

with 30k miles on them you’re 75-80% of the way through the tread. Unlike others, I wouldn’t sweat them too much because you’re going to replace them soon

Thanks for the info. I do take meticulous care of my Mav and these tires have never been underinflated. All 4 are showing the same issue.

I will be replacing them soon. Unless someone thinks it may be worth visiting the dealer.

I cringe whenever I need to go to the dealer.

My 24 XLT FX4 has these Tires. No sign of this defect but mine are relatively new with only 5K. The under inflation seems likely to me, but what do I know

I would let the dealer check into getting you a prorate on the tires. Couldn't hurt.
I would definitely be getting those tires off soon, don't wait till one lets loose.:curse:
